We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Summer Safety & Security Coordinator to oversee the security operations of the camp.
Position Overview:
The Summer Safety & Security Coordinator will be responsible for managing all aspects of camp security, including physical security, access control, emergency procedures, and staff training. This role is essential in creating a safe and secure environment for all campers, staff, and visitors while ensuring that all safety protocols are followed. The Safety & Security Coordinator will work closely with camp leadership, medical staff, and the security team to maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming camp experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Security & Access Control:
- Oversee all aspects of camp security, including managing access to the campgrounds and ensuring that only authorized personnel and visitors are permitted entry.
- Supervise a check-in/check-out system for campers and visitors and monitor arrival and departure times.
- Monitor and control vehicle access to the camp, ensuring that safety barriers and checkpoints are observed.
- Ensure that all staff, campers, and visitors adhere to security protocols.
Emergency Preparedness & Response:
- Lead and implement security-related emergency response protocols, including procedures for intruder alerts, medical emergencies, natural disasters, and evacuations.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services to ensure prompt and effective responses during emergencies.
- Have the capacity to conduct any necessary emergency drills (e.g., lockdown drills, fire evacuations) and provide feedback on drill outcomes to improve camp safety.
- Supplement the camp’s staff training in security and emergency procedures.
Surveillance & Incident Monitoring:
- Regularly patrol the camp’s premises to ensure security and identify potential safety hazards.
- Monitor security cameras and alarm systems to detect and respond to any unusual activity.
- Document and investigate security-related incidents and take appropriate action.
- Maintain detailed logs of incidents and security-related events, reporting to camp leadership as needed.
Staff & Camper Safety Education:
- Supplement staff training on security measures, including conflict resolution, recognizing and reporting suspicious activity, and managing challenging situations.
- Be willing to educate campers on safety and security protocols, including what to do in case of an emergency and how to recognize and report unsafe behavior.
- Ensure that all camp activities and events are conducted in a secure manner, with appropriate security measures in place to protect everyone involved.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with camp leadership, medical staff, and the camp's general operations team to create a cohesive approach to camp security and safety.
- Communicate effectively with staff, campers, and visitors to keep everyone informed of security policies and emergency procedures.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for any security-related concerns or incidents and respond quickly and professionally to resolve them.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in security management, law enforcement, or emergency management
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED (required); additional safety certifications are a plus.
- Knowledge of security best practices, risk management, and emergency response procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead, train, and manage staff.
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Experience working with children is preferred.
- Basic understanding of surveillance technology and security systems is desirable.
