Job Title: Assistant StreetLeader Director
This job is a part-time (20 hours per week), hourly position. The typical workweek is Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with some weekends required. Successful candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check and child abuse clearance. The position is a mandated reporter.
General Overview: The Assistant StreetLeader Director (ASLD) will collaborate closely with the StreetLeader Director (SLD) to oversee, support, and develop high school StreetLeaders (SL) at Camp Grace. This role involves mentoring teens, coordinating program logistics, building partnerships, and ensuring the StreetLeader Program continues to thrive as a pipeline of growth and opportunity for young people in Trenton. The ASLD will supervise the daily activities of the 10 teens participating in the ETC StreetLeader Program, which is made possible through our partnership with the East Trenton Collaborative (ETC). East Trenton is a culturally diverse neighborhood; speaking and understanding Spanish is essential for success in this role. All StreetLeaders are paid to work Monday through Thursday and required to attend weekly enrichments on Fridays and daily academic progress checks. The ASLD will work at the East Trenton Center (601 N Clinton Ave, Trenton, NJ) and attend additional team meetings with UrbanPromise Trenton staff.
Required Qualifications:
- Affinity for, and ability to, mentor teenagers and young adults in a structured environment.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage conflicts professionally.
- Prepared to serve as a positive role model for young adults.
- Familiarity with job development training.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, and Zoom is essential.
- Understanding of and commitment to the UrbanPromise Trenton mission.
- Previous experience working with youth.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily SL academic activities, such as tutoring with Bonner Scholars, tracking attendance, and offering student support as needed.
- Provide direct supervision and mentorship to StreetLeaders.
- Observe StreetLeaders and help address disciplinary issues or challenges.
- Oversee teens’ interactions with children and encourage kindness and inclusion.
- Conduct daily debriefs with StreetLeaders.
- Coordinate with SLD to plan Friday enrichment activities for teenage staff and volunteers.
- Collaborate with SLD to organize and execute StreetLeader orientations, retreats, and related events, such as staff nights out.
- Partner with SLD to oversee college preparation for eligible StreetLeaders, including college applications, SAT or ACT exams, and college field trips.
- Work collaboratively with other UPT and ETC staff, volunteers, and board members.
- Assist with fundraising efforts as needed and oversee SLs involved in those activities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
