Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Medical Assistant to join our clinic on a part-time, 1099 contractor basis. The ideal candidate is a Staten Island resident with at least two (2) years of continuous employment experience in a clinical or medical office setting.
This role combines clinical support, administrative coordination, and patient engagement, making it ideal for a motivated professional who enjoys multitasking and working in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Prepare patients for visits: obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, BMI, and medical history.
- Assist the provider with patient exams, medication administration, and procedures (e.g., injections, ECGs, blood draws, specimen collection).
- Perform venipuncture, blood handling, and point-of-care testing (urine dipstick, A1c, pregnancy, etc.).
- Document all clinical activities accurately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Maintain exam room cleanliness, stock supplies, and adhere to infection control standards.
- Prepare and process diagnostic orders and referrals (lab, imaging, specialist).
- Support telehealth visits as needed, ensuring patients are properly onboarded and pre-screened.
Administrative & Office Management Duties
- Answer phones, schedule appointments, and verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Collect copays, update patient demographics, and reconcile daily payments.
- Manage incoming faxes, electronic documents, and patient communications.
- Submit and track prior authorizations for medications and diagnostic testing.
- Coordinate patient flow to ensure efficiency and timeliness.
- Maintain logs (lab tracking, vaccine inventory, equipment calibration).
- Assist with billing documentation and superbill preparation.
- Support onboarding of new patients and maintain compliance with HIPAA and OSHA standards.
Practice Operations Support (a plus but not required)
- Experience managing small office operations (ordering supplies, scheduling staff, managing vendors).
- Familiarity with insurance billing processes, EHR systems.
- Ability to assist with basic marketing support (confirming appointments, updating patient reminders, helping with forms, maintaining office bulletin board and consent packets).
- Experience in a weight-management, family practice, or veterans’ evaluation clinic preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Medical Assistant certification or diploma preferred.
- At least 2 years of recent experience working in a medical office, clinic, or private practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA, and infection control procedures.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities; comfortable with electronic documentation.
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, EHR systems).
- Must be reliable, punctual, detail-oriented, and professional in demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Staten Island resident or within a short commute to the practice (highly recommended).
- Phlebotomy certification or documented venipuncture experience.
- Prior experience in weight-loss, metabolic, endocrinology, or veterans’ healthcare.
- Familiarity with insurance verification and claim workflows.
- Experience with scheduling platforms and HIPAA-compliant communication tools.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team.
Schedule & Compensation
- Part-time (20–30 hours/week); flexible weekday schedule based on clinic needs.
- Compensation: $22–$25/hour (1099 contract). Rate will be commensurate with experience, credentials, and performance.
- No benefits (1099 contractor), but opportunity for increased hours or long-term role expansion based on clinic growth.
