IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR - Building Principal

 

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM - Building administrators, district leadership

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION - Provide personalized learning that supports each student in achieving their potential. Engages in professional growth and fulfills professional responsibilities.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  1. Demonstrated application of effective instruction, meeting student needs relative to district benchmarks and standards.
  2. Knowledge of "best practice" in teaching.
  3. Knowledge of the developmental characteristics of students at the designated grade level.
  4. Ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders.
  5. Knowledge of the Iowa Teaching Standards.
  6. Knowledge of special education and section 504.
  7. Knowledge of Federal Rights and Privacy Act and other civil rights regulations.
  8. Ability to organize and think clearly while communicating, organizing, and evaluating.

Education

  1. Earned Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Board of Educational Examiners approved alternative.

Certification/Licensure

  1. Appropriate BOEE licensure.

Experience

  1. Experience teaching preferred.

Equipment

  1. Office equipment such as computers, two-way radios, multi-line phone system, cell phone, copier, and fax machines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -

The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  1. Demonstrates effective implementation of the eight Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria.
  2. Meets professional responsibilities as outlined in the Professional Growth Assessment Plan, Employee Handbook, and Board policy.
  3. Develops, with their supervisor, a plan for professional growth.
  4. Direct band ensembles in instrumental music.
  5. Support the development and direction of marching band.
  6. Play instruments to demonstrate musical scales, tones, and rhythm.
  7. Plan a balanced music program and organize daily classroom work based on teaching outline prepared for course of study to meet curriculum requirements and so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  8. Support the development and dirction of jazz bands.
  9. Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  10. Evaluate each student’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
  11. Use repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional, jazz, and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
  12. Cooperate with the school administration in providing band programs for school, district, and civic performances.
  13. Plan, rehearse, direct and coach students in their individual parts, in fundamentals of musicianship, and ensemble performance.
  14. Lead band ensembles in regular and special performances for school programs, community activities, concerts, and festivals.
  15. Establish and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances.
  16. Critique performance to identify errors and reinforce correct techniques.
  17. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned. Accompany students on field trips to musical performances.
  18. Select and requisition books, musical instruments, and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records. Order, store, and inventory musical instruments, music, and supplies.
  19. Communicate and meet with parents and school counselors on student progress and to resolve any student problems.
  20. Control the storage and use of school-owned property; make minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
  21. Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  22. Maintain professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.
  23. Maintains a reliable attendance record.
  24. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS -

  1. None

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -

  1. Repetitious bending, lifting, and hand movement.
  2. Ability to work while standing, moving and/or walking.
  3. Drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free while working.
  4. Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids.
  5. Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites.

WORKING CONDITIONS -

  1. Majority of work is performed in an office or school setting.
  2. Occasional meetings outside the school day.
  3. Occasional exposure to body fluids, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials and emergency situations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT -

  1. Per Board Policies and the UEA Master Contract.
  2. Performance evaluated per Board Policy and the Professional Growth Assessment Plan.
