TITLE: Bilingual Social Worker
LOCATIONS: Yankee Ridge Multilingual
SUPERVISOR: This position reports directly to the building Principal and the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services.
SUPERVISES: Supervises the work of student social work interns as applicable.
JOB SUMMARY: The Social Worker promotes and enhances the overall academic mission of the Urbana School District #116 by providing services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning. The Social Worker contributes to developing a healthy and safe environment by advancing the understanding of the social, emotional, and developmental needs of District students and their families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Provide casework, group work, coordination/outreach, and consultation to children, parents, school, and community personnel
- Provide crisis intervention to school-age children and their families.
- Establish and maintain home-school ties.
- Participate in special education evaluation and services determination, including adaptive behavior assessment and social developmental studies.
- Cooperate as an interdisciplinary team member with school and community personnel.
- Observe students in classrooms for evaluation and problem-solving purposes.
- Cooperate in efforts to remediate truancy, delinquency, and behavior problems.
- Maintain records for accountability of professional social work services.
- Coordinate transitions within programs, schools, and communities.
- Aid in finding solutions to special community problems.
- Identify, inform, and refer staff, students, and their families to community resources and services.
- Cooperate with community agencies to identify the need for protective services for children.
- Engage in staff organization, training, and growth through group social work meetings.
- Contribute to professional growth and development by participating in workshops, institutes, seminars, and research projects.
- Participate in local, state, regional, and national social work organizations.
- Provide supervision for school social work and psychologist interns.
- Collaborate with building staff regarding implementing social and emotional curriculum and methods.
- Provide supervision to school psychology and school social work interns.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in School Social Work
EXPERIENCE
- Spanish language proficiency
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Minimum of 2 years of successful teaching experience except in the case of a new Social Worker.
LICENSES/CREDENTIALS: Valid Illinois School Social Work License

- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with various individuals and/or organizations.
- Ability to solve complex problems.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively work with students with a history of behavioral, emotional, and/or learning problems.
- Must work well within a team environment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Salary and Benefit information can be found on the Human Resources webpage. There are many opportunities for employees to earn additional compensation (stipends, differentials, extra duty pay, etc.) during the regular school year and in the summer.
- This is a position within the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position.
- This is an exempt position.
- Student Contact Days and other days stipulated on the work calendar in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Building Principal(s) in accordance with provisions of the negotiated agreement using the district’s evaluation tool.
