The Urbana & Champaign Sanitary District is looking for a qualified General Maintenance Worker.

This position is a physically demanding job requiring the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds on a regular basis, stand or walk for up to 2 hours at a time and up to 7 hours per day. It also requires periodically being on-call and responding to after-hours emergencies, working in confined spaces, and working outside in all weather conditions.

This position performs a variety of duties related to the upkeep and maintenance of District equipment, infrastructure, and facilities including:

• locating, inspecting, cleaning, and repairing manholes and sewer lines,
• vacuuming, cleaning, and degreasing lift stations,
• repairing non-potable water lines, valves, and hydrants,
• operating a variety of heavy equipment,
• performing heavy-duty cleaning and making minor carpentry and plumbing repairs to buildings,
• performing janitorial and groundskeeping duties,
• removing snow and debris,
• reading and interpreting maps and drawings,
• transportation of liquid sewage sludge from the District's Southwest Treatment Plant to the Northeast Treatment Plant

Candidates with a CDL tanker certification are preferred, however, those candidates that don't possess a CDL will be given the opportunity to obtain one within 11 months of hire. The District will assist with the financial obligation to obtain the CDL training. This position also requires a safe driving record and the ability to be covered by District vehicle insurance. The position requires the ability to use computers to enter work orders and requisitions, and use a GIS system. The wage range for this position is $27.61 - $31.02.
