What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sales Development Representative position at Urban Umbrella?
Sales Development Representative (SDR)
Company: Urban Umbrella
Location: New York City
Job Type: Full-Time
About Urban Umbrella
Urban Umbrella is at the forefront of urban design, best known for its premium sidewalk scaffolding that has reimagined the streets of NYC and other metropolises. Our system has benefited commercial real estate owners, tenants, and their customers by reducing construction disruption, promoting pedestrian safety, and increasing commercial visibility. With nearly a decade of experience, our designs and the Urban Umbrella brand itself has reached far beyond construction and into premium events, hospitality, outdoor media, and custom signage design. As we scale across new markets and verticals, we’re building the team that will help chart the future of public space.
Job Overview
Urban Umbrella is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, creative, and hungry Sales Development
Representative (SDR) to drive the top of our sales funnel. This is a focused outbound lead generation role – your primary job is to research, prospect, and generate a qualified pipeline. You will work from a strategic accounts and projects list spanning New York City and national markets while also identifying and pursuing net-new opportunities as you develop market knowledge and spot gaps in coverage.
You will work directly under the Head of Sales and alongside our BDM and BDR, who manage deals from qualified opportunity through close. You will be trained and mentored by our current BDR, who has spent the last year refining Urban Umbrella’s outbound engine in collaboration with the Head of Sales. This is a role for someone who understands that disciplined prospecting is the foundation of a high-performing sales organization. Your ability to identify leads, gain access, stay organized, think critically, and be proactive will directly contribute to the continued growth and success of Urban Umbrella.
Responsibilities
• Outbound Prospecting: Drive systematic outbound outreach across a strategic account and
prospecting list and beyond. This includes researching the right contacts, across multiple offices
with a single account, sequencing thoughtful multi-touch campaigns, and generating qualified first
conversations.
• Account Research and Mapping: Conduct thorough pre-outreach research to identify decision makers, understand project pipelines, permit activity, and construction plans – and tailor outreach accordingly. Many target accounts (e.g., national developers, large GCs, major REITS, etc.) require
contact mapping across multiple regional offices. You will also proactively identify new accounts
that fit our target profile and bring them into the pipeline independently.
• Meeting Generation: Set qualified meetings for the Head of Sales and BDM on a consistent weekly
cadence. Quality over quantity – meetings should be well qualified and arrive with context.
• Pipeline Hygiene & CRM Discipline: Document all activity in Salesforce meticulously. Maintain,
clean, accurate records of outreach, contact data, and account status. Your CRM discipline directly
supports the team’s ability to convert.
• Prospecting Innovation: Continuously bring new ideas to the team on how to approach outreach –
new channels, new triggers, new messaging angles. The market eveolves and so should our
approach.
• Deal Support (as developed): As you grow into the role, you will have the opportunity to support
active deals – preparing materials, assisting with follow-ups, and contributing to proposals
alongside the broader sales team.
Who We’re Looking For
Experience
• 1-3 years of B2B outbound/inbound sales or sales development experience, ideally in construction,
commercial real estate, real estate services, facilities, or an adjacent technical services
environment.
• Demonstrated ability to run structured outbound campaigns – not just cold calls, but researchdriven,
multi-touch prospecting.
• Comfortable managing outreach across complex, multi-contact accounts – understanding that a
single target like a national GC or developer may require mapping multiple offices and
stakeholders.
Skills & Traits
• Strong written and verbal communication – capable of crafting outreach that earns a response, and
holding an intelligent conversation independently.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage a large account list without letting accounts go cold or
slip through the cracks.
• A self-starter who is efficient, creative, and results-oriented.
• Team player who thrives in a collaborative environment, offering feedback and contributing to
group success.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a focus on achieving measurable
results.
• Positive attitude with a “figure it out” mentality – able to adapt and problem solve as needed.
• Relationship builder: strong ability to foster trust and rapport with clients.
• Eagerness to understand how Urban Umbrella fits into the larger ecosystem of the built
environment.
Tools
• Familiarity with Salesforce
• Familiarity with sales engagement platforms, LinkedIn, or similar prospecting tools
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel
• Proficient in PowerPoint / Keynote
