BACKGROUND: Urban Strategies Inc. (USI) is a 501(c) 3 corporation founded in 1978. The mission of USI is to empower residents in distressed urban core neighborhoods to lead healthy, prosperous lives in thriving, self-sustaining communities. USI uses innovative approaches to provide families with a broad and integrated set of supports and collaborates with other community organizations to increase the human capital-building assets in communities. In San Antonio, USI's work is taking place at Essence Prep, a tuition-free public school which opened in 2022. Through rigorous academics, intentional character development, and cultivating student knowledge of self, Essence Prep prepares all students for high school, college, and beyond as leading agents of change in their communities.
JOB SUMMARY:
The primary focus of this position would seek to facilitate academic support and coordinate hands-on enrichment programming for PK-12th grade youth. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Organize and oversee program space (set-up, clean-up, and inventory supplies)
- Assist in the outreach and recruitment of program participants
- Planning and implementing youth activities to fit within the program’s framework and focus area
- Assist with other events and resource distributions for families of participants
- Modeling teamwork, initiative, and positive behavior management to other program staff
- Maintaining necessary paperwork for registration, attendance, evaluation, and reporting
- Ensure that families, children, and youth receive educational services for which they are eligible
- Use technology-based case management system to track outcomes
- Adhere to/Align efforts with USI’s national education framework
- May work some evenings and weekends
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate’s degree in youth work or related field and a minimum of one year of experience working directly with youth
- Prior experience planning developmentally appropriate activities for youth
- Ability to maintain proper evaluation and reporting materials
- Ability to relate well with youth and parents from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
- Good communication, verbal, written and listening skills
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Valid driver’s license
