Overview: The Director of Transportation is responsible for all logistics trucking, transportation, dispatch, and equipment logistics activities across Curtin Co., Eagle, and Carolina Traffic Control Devices (CTD). This role is the central point of control for company-owned trucking assets, third-party carriers, brokers, equipment moves, transportation costs, and dispatch operations. The position focuses solely on trucking and equipment logistics and does not manage field labor or crew scheduling.

Core Responsibilities
· Direct and oversee all trucking, dispatch, and transportation operations across Curtin, Eagle, and CTD.
· Schedule all company-owned trucks, trailers, and transportation assets while securing outside trucking capacity through approved vendors and brokers.
· Coordinate movement and utilization of construction equipment, traffic control devices, trailers, attenuators, and specialty equipment.
· Ensure transportation resources are obtained within project bid assumptions and cost parameters.
· Track all transportation-related project costs and maintain accurate reporting.
· Ensure truck sheets, dispatch logs, load tickets, and transportation documentation are completed accurately and timely.
· Validate invoices against truck sheets, load records, rates, and supporting documentation before approval.
· Ensure transportation costs are coded correctly and uploaded into HCSS HeavyJob.
· Supervise and develop dispatch personnel across all operating companies.
· Build and manage relationships with trucking companies, brokers, and owner-operators.
· Serve as the primary escalation point for transportation and equipment logistics issues and maintain 24/7 availability.
· Support transportation needs for all sister companies, including operations outside the traditional Curtin market.
· Evaluate and help develop future transportation-related revenue opportunities, including a standalone trucking business line.
DOT Compliance & Regulatory Responsibilities
· Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
· Coordinate with Fleet and Safety teams to ensure vehicle inspections, registrations, permits, and driver qualification files remain current.
· Monitor Hours-of-Service compliance and transportation recordkeeping requirements.
· Support DOT audits, regulatory reviews, and corrective action efforts.
· Work with Fleet and Safety personnel to ensure drivers receive required training and certifications.
· Monitor transportation vendors and subcontractors for regulatory compliance and insurance requirements.
Position Requirements:
· 7 years of transportation, logistics, trucking, fleet management, or heavy construction experience preferred.
· 3 years of leadership or dispatch management experience.
· Heavy highway construction experience strongly preferred.
· Working knowledge of DOT regulations, transportation compliance, and fleet operations.
· Experience with HCSS HeavyJob, Microsoft Office, job costing, and logistics systems.
· Strong communication, leadership, organization, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions:
Physical Requirements
· Sit, stand, walk, kneel, bend, crawl, crouch, climb, and move between office, yard, shop, field, and construction site environments throughout the day.
· Use hands, arms, and legs fully; reach for handles and manipulate objects, materials, controls, documents, and tools as needed.
· Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
· Vision required to see details at close range and at a distance, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, either naturally or with correction.
· Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; heavier lifting may be required with assistance or appropriate equipment.
· Mental and visual attention is necessary to effectively complete work tasks, manage schedules, review documents, and respond to changing operational needs.
Environmental Conditions:
· Work is performed in office but will have exposure to jobsites, yard, shop, and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
· While on jobsites and yards, may be exposed to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and other conditions commonly associated with construction and trucking operations.
· The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to loud depending on location and activity.
· Proper PPE is required while on jobsites/barrier yards which include steel tip safety boots, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and other PPE as necessary.
Pay: From $80,000.00 per year
