Program Manager
Urban Seeds is a nonprofit based in Evansville, Indiana connecting families with healthy food and supporting farms in Southwest Indiana. The Program Manager will oversee the planning, coordination, and implementation of our food access and food education programs, including Nourish, our produce promotion and distribution program, and Market on Main, a seasonal farmers market. The ideal candidate combines strong organizational skills with creativity in outreach and storytelling to grow community-centered programs.
Key Responsibilities
Program Management & Community Engagement
- Manage weekly and annual planning, procurement, and fulfillment strategy for our Nourish produce bundles and seasonal pop-up stands.
- Develop and implement community outreach and marketing strategies to promote nutritious food, local producers, Nourish and Market on Main program activities.
- Work closely with the Marketing Coordinator to create engaging storytelling content for newsletters, social media, and other communication channels.
- Oversee the seasonal operation of Market on Main including vendor coordination, site logistics, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Lead the annual vendor application, review and selection process.
- Coordinate SNAP/EBT acceptance, Double Up and Power of Produce partnerships.
- Ensure food distribution sites and markets are a welcoming, inclusive environment for vendors, program participants, and community members.
- Build and maintain relationships with farmers, food producers, mission-aligned organizations and community groups. Explore and make recommendations for program partnerships.
- Represent Urban Seeds at community events and outreach opportunities.
Staff & Volunteer Coordination
- Recruit and manage seasonal staff and volunteers.
- Develop schedules, assign tasks, and provide ongoing support and evaluation.
Administration
- Create and maintain seasonal calendars, program budgets, and data tracking systems.
- Maintain accurate records of program metrics and prepare reports for various stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in program or event coordination, nutrition, public health, agriculture, food distribution, hospitality or a related field.
- Interest in developing a deeper understanding of local food, agriculture, food access, and food systems change.
- Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience developing marketing or outreach campaigns.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Excel, Facebook, Instagram, Canva or similar design tools.
- Valid driver’s license and background check required.
Work Environment - This position operates in various indoor and outdoors settings throughout the year. Our 18-week farmers market, pop-up produce stands and other community facing events involve working in outdoor conditions with extended periods of standing, walking and lifting up to 40 pounds. While appropriate safety measures are taken for working conditions, these environments will be physically demanding.
Hours - This is a full-time position requiring a 40-hour weekly commitment with flexibility in scheduling. Must be available to work on-site on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. During market season from June-September, the Wednesday work day will be modified to effectively manage the 9am-1pm event. Occasional night or weekend work will be required, no more than 1-2 times per month.
Compensation - Salary range starts at $45,000 with opportunities for growth annually based on performance, experience and cost of living.
