POSITION OVERVIEW

The Program Director of the Economic Empowerment Program (EEP) will serve as the lead for the Urban Resource Institute's (URI) economic justice work. EEP is situated in the Justice Initiatives department, which are a collection of programmatic services that empower individuals, families, and communities, particularly communities of color and other disenfranchised populations, on addressing barriers to safety and promoting resiliency. The PD will oversee a programmatic budget of $1.7 million and be a key member of the fund development team for the program. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Justice Initiatives, the Program Director will work directly with our EEP staff to deepen and grow the work of the program.

The Economic Empowerment Program provides financial and career education services and supports domestic violence survivors, homeless families and youth. The Economic Empowerment team utilizes a trauma-informed and strengths-based lens to provide both individual and group support to clients and their families and identify and build relationships with appropriate community partners. In addition to supporting the direct services of the program, the Program Director is expected to support the program in their larger system's change work around economic justice.

Salary : $90,000 - $95,000

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Program Leadership & Growth

  • Provide inclusive leadership and management to EE's program managers, which include the Career Development, Job Development & Retention, Fab Lab, and Financial Empowerment areas of the program, create opportunities for professional development and provide comprehensive oversight of the program's operations
  • Cultivate leadership and professional development for staff, including facilitating growth opportunities. This includes but is not limited to promoting career pathways and promotions within URI, mentorship and internship opportunities, and training targets incorporated into individual staffing goals and objectives
  • Provide overall direction for strategic learning and development to the Economic Empowerment Program team
  • Ensure compliance with all grant reporting and achievements
  • Develop and achieve annual department and program-level goals in alignment with the theory of change and logic models as well as funder deliverables and in support of the mission and agency-wide strategic plan
  • Collaborate closely with other Justice Initiative program leaders and staff along with other divisions within URI
  • Work closely with the Associate Vice President of Justice Initiatives to create innovative program development that is aligned with survivor-led, equity-based solutions specifically for underserved communities

Fiscal Management & Development

  • Work collaboratively with the EE team to monitor budget performance, track progress on budget to actuals in partnership with team members
  • Participate in fund development activities for the program and collaborate actively with URI's Development and MarComm as well as Government Affairs Departments
  • Assist with the development and implementation of consistent standards, policies and practices regarding client services and other agency protocols.
  • Data & Equity Analysis

  • Train and ensure that EE staff are entering all data accurately and in a timely manner
  • Complete KPI dashboard and other key data dashboards
  • Evaluate data to ensure that EEP is serving clients from an equity standpoint
  • Work proactively to create new data tracking methods that show the important work and success of the EE program
  • Provide key information regarding data to AVP, Senior Team, Development Team, and Government Affairs as needed
  • Collaborate with Quality Improvement, Evaluation and Training Team to develop Apricot database to more accurately track EEP's data and KPIs
  • Collective Impact & Thought Leadership

  • Engage with cross-sector partners alongside URI's Government Affairs team to accomplish bold, equitable solutions to homelessness and domestic and gender-based violence in the NYC community
  • Represent the agency on coalitions, taskforces, working groups and committees focused on relevant legal issues.
  • Other duties as requested based on department, program and / or organizational needs.
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE :

  • Commitment to the vision and mission of Urban Resource Institute.
  • Demonstrated passion and commitment to public interest and an understanding of trauma-informed services.
  • Masters' in Vocational Counseling, Human Services, Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field, or five (5) years of vocational experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing adult development, work readiness curricula and lesson plans
  • Knowledge of educational and employment barriers and resources for low-income and victims of violence in NYC.
  • Knowledge of NYC workforce landscape and resources.
  • Strong project development and management skills, including managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines; ability to adapt strategy to changing conditions and communicate changes effectively.
  • Highly motivated, with proven capacity to work independently, take initiative, and thrive in high-paced entrepreneurial environment.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and experience with and / or knowledge of domestic violence within and against disenfranchised communities including individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and / or HIV-affected, the elderly and individuals with mental health issues.
  • Experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse team, maintaining a healthy work environment for staff that encourages professionalism, respect, equality, diversity and continuous improvement.
  • Robust project management skills and experience, specifically in projects requiring significant resources, cross-functional involvement with the ability to meet and organize multiple project deadlines in fast paced high energy working environment.
  • Strong writing and public speaking skills with an ability to manage and organize multiple projects in a busy, pressured working environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with people of diverse educational, cultural and professional backgrounds.
  • Experience integrating trauma-informed care within programming and team development.
  • Strong commitment to equity and social justice, including a focus on self-awareness and engagement of continuous learning around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion; high level of Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
  • Experience building and leading diverse teams across multiple sites, including individuals impacted by homelessness, poverty, and / or trauma.
  • Willingness to travel to residential and community program spaces, and community partner sites
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and client CRM (e.g., Apricot, Salesforce)
  • SPECIFICATIONS FOR WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • EEP's office is located in the Grand Central area
  • The work environment varies given work location but generally is bright and medium in environmental noise, medium in work-pace, and high in work volume and diversity of initiatives / tasks
  • Work schedule includes three days working in the office or across URI program sites and two days working from home; flexibility is required to meet on-site demands throughout the week.
