Summary
Reporting to the Director of Operations and/or Operations Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker individually or in a team performs routine and comprehensive general maintenance and cleaning of the facility and equipment in compliance with Urban Pathways and funding and regulatory agencies regulations, policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
Program/Facilities
- Ensures the facility is clean of debris and garbage.
- Disposes and recycles garbage in accordance with Urban Pathways and New York City regulations, policies and procedures.
- Sorts and eliminates co-mingling of recyclable products and hazardous materials.
- Performs building cleaning operations as scheduled.
- Cleans building area.
- Sanitizes building area.
- Strips and waxes floor areas.
- Performs window and glass washing.
- Performs high dusting and vacuuming.
- Performs basic groundskeeping.
- Performs snow removal and other building emergency maintenance tasks. Maintains safe and non-slippery walkways including but not limited to spreading of salt, deicer and placement of walk-off mats at building entrances, in inclement weather.
- Performs maintenance duties including but not limited to:
- Paints assigned areas. Provides protection from paint drippings in adjoining areas and furniture.
- Observes safety protocols and procedures in all work operations.
- Performs preventative and remedial repairs and maintenance on facility and equipment including minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs.
- Monitors the facility at all times to identify issues needing attention such as emergency repairs and immediately reports issues to supervisor.
- Ensures that all equipment and appliances are in good working order.
- Provides recommendations for repair, upgrade or replacement when needed.
- Provides limited front desk coverage as designated by supervisor.
- Answers phones.
- Screens visitors.
- Monitors building CCTV and fire alarm /security panel.
- Communicates with local fire and police departments as needed.
- Performs client relocations as needed.
- Performs safety inspections as mandated by Urban Pathways and funding and regulatory agency requirements and guidelines.
- Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)in accordance with Urban Pathways and funding and regulatory agency requirements and guidelines.
Administrative
- Maintains ongoing communication with preceding and following shifts, including clinical staff in compliance with Urban Pathways policies and procedures.
- Assists in maintaining inventories of all maintenance and janitorial supplies as needed.
- Completes work orders and other tasks as assigned.
- Completes paperwork to close out all assigned work orders.
- Completes and submits requisitions for supplies.
- Completes and signs off daily checklist on completed tasks.
- Assist sin carrying out the preventative maintenance plan for the facility.
- Completes and submits appropriate reports.
- Documents all incidents and unusual occurrences in compliance with Urban Pathways and funding and regulatory agency requirements and guidelines.
- Documents client activities and incident reporting in client database system(s).
Community Relations
- Represents Urban Pathways and responds to inquiries as needed.
Communication
- Communicates verbally and in writing in a professional manner at all times.
- Attends staff meetings, trainings, and supervisory sessions, as required.
- Responds to all communications including telephone, email and other oral and written inquiries in a timely manner.
Performs all other duties as assigned and as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience in building maintenance and janitorial duties or equivalent of experience.
- Experience with homeless, individuals with mental health conditions and substance abuse population preferred.
Skills
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Outlook, etc.) a plus.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
- Ability to use various power and hand tools efficiently and in a safe manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.
- Knowledge of various building maintenance and repair procedures and safety techniques.
- Foreign languages a plus.
Other
- Required to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, evenings and to remain on post until relieved.
Licenses
- OSHA license a plus.
- CPR, First Aid required within 3 months of hire.
- AED preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, lift (up to50lbs.), carry, climb stairs and ladders frequently, type, write, read, speak, see, and hear.
