The Downtown Springfield Association is a non-profit 501c6 community development organization that has been actively revitalizing Downtown since 1965. It supports existing small businesses, attracts new investment, coordinates marketing and hosts many of the region’s most iconic family-friendly events.
COMMUNICATIONS INTERNSHIP
DSA seeks qualified applicants for its Communications Intern position. The successful candidate will demonstrate competency and passion for the following areas::
- Organizational skills
- Hospitality-first mindset
- Basic photo & video editing skills
- Basic copywriting skills
- Creative problem solver
- Research and data driven
- Familiar with Google programs & Adobe Suite
- Social media
- Photo & video editing
- Proficiency in Mailchimp or related email marketing platform
- Proficiency in digital ad platforms (Google Ads, Facebook, etc.)
- Graphic design
Assist the DSA Communications Manager in enhancing the digital presence for Downtown Springfield:
- Posting event information on the itsalldowntown.com website and weekly emails
- Creating high quality business highlights for social media channels
- Posting event info on other local websites
- Placement of event posters to encourage patrons to come Downtown
- Other duties as assigned by the DSA staff team
- May through August 2024
- 10-15 hours per week (about 250 hours in total)
This is a paid internship ($13/hour) with valuable connections in the local community. In addition, academic credit and flexible work locations can be arranged.

PUBLIC SPACE ACTIVATION INTERNSHIP
DSA Seeks Qualified Applicants For Its Public Space Activation Intern Position. The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate Competency In And Passion For The Following Areas:
- Top-notch organizational skills
- Hospitality-first mindset
- Basic communications skills
- Creative problem solver
- Research and data driven
- Familiar with Google Drive programs
Assist the DSA Executive Director with the following community events in Downtown Springfield:
- Downtown Wiffle League & Pickle Wednesdays
- Grassroots music concerts featuring local performers
- Public markets highlighting Downtown businesses and area artists and crafters
- Other DSA events as time allows
- Draft participant communication
- Gather collateral for communications
- Coordinate event logistics
- Work the events
- Manage event listings (locations, times, parking, etc.)
- May through December 2024
- 10-15 hours per week (about 250 hours in total)
