Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Civil Site Engineer to join our dynamic architectural design firm. The successful candidate will play a critical role in designing and implementing site plans, civil drainage plans, and other essential components for a variety of residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects. This position requires extensive knowledge of local building codes, zoning requirements, and height restrictions, as well as a strong understanding of soils, drainage systems, and site grading.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Plan Development:
- Design and prepare detailed site plans, ensuring compliance with local codes and ordinances.
- Collaborate with architects and landscape designers to integrate site planning with building designs effectively.
- Analyze site constraints and propose efficient solutions for optimal site utilization.
Civil Drainage Plans:
- Develop comprehensive civil drainage plans, incorporating best practices for stormwater management.
- Design infiltration trenches, detention/retention systems, and other drainage features as needed.
- Ensure that drainage systems meet environmental and regulatory standards.
Code Compliance and Zoning:
- Conduct in-depth reviews of local building codes, zoning ordinances, and environmental regulations to ensure project compliance.
- Address issues related to setbacks, height restrictions, parking, and utility easements.
Final Grading and Soils Analysis:
- Create final grading plans that balance aesthetics, functionality, and site-specific conditions.
- Perform or review soils analysis to determine site suitability for construction and drainage infrastructure.
- Recommend solutions for soil stabilization, erosion control, and foundation requirements.
Permitting and Coordination:
- Prepare and submit plans for permits, responding to agency comments and ensuring timely approvals.
- Collaborate with municipal agencies, consultants, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
Utility Coordination:
- Design layouts for water, sewer, and utility systems, coordinating with relevant stakeholders.
- Address conflicts with existing utilities and propose solutions during site development.
Sustainable Design:
- Incorporate sustainable design practices, such as low-impact development (LID), green infrastructure, and energy-efficient site planning.
- Evaluate opportunities for rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge.
Construction Oversight and Support:
- Provide technical expertise during construction phases, reviewing contractor work for adherence to plans and specifications.
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress and address any engineering-related issues.
Qualifications:
- Education and Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (required).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred or required depending on local jurisdiction).
Experience:
- Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in civil engineering, particularly in site design and drainage systems.
- Proven track record of working with architectural firms or multidisciplinary teams is highly desirable.
Technical Expertise:
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, and other relevant engineering software.
- In-depth knowledge of storm water management systems, hydrology/hydraulics modeling, and soil mechanics.
- Familiarity with permitting processes and agency requirements at local, state, and federal levels.
Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate effectively with architects, clients, and contractors.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with floodplain analysis, FEMA compliance, and wetland permitting.
