TITLE: Special Education Paraprofessional
REPORTS TO: Special Education Coordinator
JOB FUNCTION: Urban Academy is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and flexible Special Education Paraprofessional to join our PSE (Program for Students with Exceptionalities) team. The ideal candidate will support students with diverse learning and behavioral needs. This position will provide individualized assistance across learning environments, aligning with student’s specific accommodations and modifications, as outlined in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). The Special Education Paraprofessional will work closely with both PSE and General Education Teachers, openly communicating/collaborating to ensure that all needs of the student are being met.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist classroom teachers in implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, including but not limited to:
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, supports provided include assignments, assessments, and independent tasks.
- Monitor and assist with student behavior, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment.
- Aid students in developing social, academic, and instructional skills through both structured and unstructured activities.
- Provide additional support during classroom instruction, transitions, and other school activities.
- Maintain open communication with teachers, staff, parents, and/or guardians, regarding student progress and needs.
- Assist the PSE Team in preparing individualized classroom materials and adapting lessons for small groups and/or one-on-one instructional time.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism, while working with all students.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with children, especially those with exceptionalities, is highly desired.
- Knowledge of special education practices and principles
- Familiarity with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with students of all abilities
- Ability to adapt to the varying needs of students
- Credentials - Must meet one of the following:
- Obtain an Associate’s Degree or higher.
- Completed a minimum of two years of postsecondary study.
- Successful completion of a state or locally developed assessment.
- Certification or coursework in special education is a plus
- Clearances:
- ACT 33 - PA Child Abuse History Clearance
- ACT 34 - PA State Police Criminal History Clearance
- ACT 114 - FBI Criminal History Clearance
