What are the responsibilities and job description for the Retail Specialist position at Uptown Cheapskate?
Senior Associate / Buyer-in-Training
Uptown Cheapskate — Fayetteville, AR
Full-time | $16–$19/hr bonus potential
Ground floor. Literally. We're opening a new Uptown Cheapskate in Fayetteville and need someone who knows style, reads people, and wants to grow fast.
Uptown Cheapskate is a modern buy, sell, trade fashion store — think curated boutique, not chaotic thrift. We carry thousands of mall and luxury brands at up to 80% off retail, and we pay people cash the same day they bring their clothes in. No listings, no waiting, no hassle. We take the experience seriously. It's secondhand done right.
We're opening our Fayetteville location and building our team from scratch. That means you'd be part of something new. Learn to evaluate and price incoming inventory, develop a real eye for what sells, and grow into a buying or leadership role as the team develops. If you've ever wanted to get paid to think about fashion all day — and actually get good at it — this is that job.
What you'll do: Evaluate incoming clothing and accessories — condition, brand, style, demand — and make fast, confident decisions about what we accept and why. Price items using our buying system. Have real conversations with the people selling to us, including the ones who don't love the answer they get. Help merchandise the floor and keep the store looking sharp. Contribute to social media content. Be one of the more experienced people on a new team, which means helping set the tone and building the habits that make this store run well every single day.
You'd be a great fit if you: Know fashion — brands, trends, what's current, what's not. Can read a room and talk to anyone. Are comfortable making a decision and standing behind it. Take pride in doing things right. Want real responsibility, not just a job title. And if you're excited about being part of an opening team rather than walking into something already figured out, that's exactly the energy we're looking for.
You don't need: A buying background or a fashion degree. We'll train you on everything technical. What we can't train is taste, people skills, attitude, and work ethic.
What's in it for you: Competitive pay with a clear path to Buyer, Keyholder, or leadership roles. Employee discount. A team that's actually building something together. The chance to help shape a store's culture from day one, not inherit someone else's.
And one more thing: When you work here, you're part of something bigger. Uptown has partnered with buildOn and Kid to Kid since 2015 to raise money to build schools in developing countries. With the support of customers across the country, we've raised over $600,000 and funded 18 schools in Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Haiti, Nepal, Malawi, and Nicaragua. Every item that sells here keeps a garment out of a landfill and contributes to a business that gives back. That's not nothing.
Sound like you? Hit apply — we'd love to meet you.
