PARALEGAL JOB POSTING
The Uptown Attorney Office Building is looking for a paralegal with an interest in criminal law. The position involves supporting two criminal defense attorneys in the building.
Looking for one who is punctual, organized, and has stellar client and time management doing the following tasks:
- Conduct initial client in-takes
- Perform general administrative duties and support (consistently provides friendly and helpful telephone support, taking messages, photocopying and scanning documents, calendaring hearings and deadlines)
- Exhibit good judgment and organizational skills to receive, record and disseminate all information on behalf of the clients and assigned attorneys (e.g., mail, interoffice mail, email, etc.)
- Draft standard correspondence, simple motions or pleadings, and other documents
- Regularly and accurately proofread all documents to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to distribution or filing.
- Prepare hearing or trial exhibits
- Prepare and file documents with courts through EFS, MNDES, PACER, and CM/ECF
- Develop and maintain caseload and case assignments tracking system and database
- General bookkeeping and some accounting
- Proficiency in word processing software including MS Office
- The ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Skills and qualifications:
- Certification or associate degree in paralegal studies recommended but not necessary (bachelor’s degree is preferred)
- Some knowledge or experience with attorneys or courts is preferred, but not necessary
- Investigative mind and strong research skills
- Working knowledge of legal database software
- Mac and PC proficiency
- Excellent communication and time management skills, with attention to detail
- Bilingual English/Spanish speakers are strongly encouraged to apply
- A professional and courteous manner
Must be willing to learn the following:
- MN District Courts EFS (eFile and eServe)
- MN Digital Exhibit System (MNDES)
- Federal (U.S. District of Minnesota) Document Filing System or E-Filing (CM/ECF)
- Federal (U.S. District of Minnesota) Public Access to Court Records (PACER)
