POSITION SUMMARY
The IT Field Technician is the hands-on face of Upton Technologies at client sites. This role installs, maintains, and troubleshoots network infrastructure, servers, workstations, and low-voltage cabling across our client base, operating a company work truck between sites. The right candidate works independently, communicates clearly with non-technical staff, and represents the company with professionalism at every client business we serve.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• On-site installation, configuration, and repair of workstations, servers, printers, and peripherals
• Install, configure, and troubleshoot switches, routers, firewalls (WatchGuard), and wireless access points (UniFi, Cisco)
• Run, terminate, test, and certify structured cabling (Cat6/Cat6a, some fiber), including attic, ceiling, and wall pulls
• Support VoIP phone systems and assist with voice migrations (Cisco Webex Calling)
• Troubleshoot Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Windows, and macOS issues in the field
• Respond to escalated tickets requiring on-site presence; document work in the ticketing system
• Rack, cable, and label equipment to a clean, professional standard; maintain site documentation
• Operate and maintain an assigned company work truck; manage on-board parts and tools
• Communicate arrival, status, and completion clearly with clients and the office
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on IT support / field service experience (MSP or multi-site environment strongly preferred)
• Solid working knowledge of TCP/IP networking: VLANs, DHCP, DNS, NAT, basic routing and switching
• Experience installing and terminating structured cabling to industry standards
• Proficiency with Windows 10/11 and Windows Server; familiarity with Active Directory and Microsoft 365 administration
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (company vehicle provided)
• Ability to pass a criminal background check
• Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in attics, ceilings, and server closets
• Professional appearance and strong customer-facing communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• CompTIA Network or Cisco CCNA certification (must be current)
• Experience with WatchGuard firewalls and Ubiquiti UniFi wireless/switching
• Experience with VoIP deployments (Webex Calling or similar hosted platforms)
• Low-voltage or fiber termination experience (LC/SC, OTDR testing a plus)
• Prior MSP experience with PSA/RMM tooling and time entry discipline
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
• Salary range: $50,000–$58,000 per year, depending on experience
• Company work truck, tools, phone, and laptop provided
• Paid training and certification support (Cisco, CompTIA, WatchGuard)
SCHEDULE
Monday–Friday, standard business hours, with occasional after-hours or weekend project work (cutovers, migrations) scheduled in advance.
