Job Summary:

Reporting to the Head of Archives and Special Collections, the Digital Archivist will develop and implement workflows, according to archival best practices, for effective acquisition, description, and management of a broad range of born-digital and digitized records, including webpage content and incorporate these records into the archival collection management system and a digital asset management system to facilitate access and preservation. The Archivist will develop strategies for the long-term preservation of digital records with enduring value, and draft policies for archiving emails, websites, databases, photographs, and other born-digital documents. The Archivist must monitor trends and developments in library digital initiatives to recommend appropriate adoption and implementation of new technologies and methods.

On the job you will:

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trends in archival management related to the preservation, access, organization and digitization of source materials, including metadata schemas, digital media processes, and institutional repositories where archival content resides.
  • Appraise electronic records for enduring value and facilitate transfer of permanent records from University units to the Archives.
  • Develop processes for the routine acquisition, preservation, and access of born-digital materials given to Special Collections, including email, websites, and other electronic records
  • Coordinate the transfer of digital materials from a variety of current and legacy media formats such as tapes, film reels, floppy disks, CDs, and implement mechanisms for ensuring the authenticity, preservation, and access of this material.
  • Work with Head of ASC to establish policies and develop and manage projects and workflows for processing digitized and born-digital archival materials; create and manage web content: including online exhibits, oral history interviews, and the archive’s digital collection portals.
  • Liaise with librarians, faculty, and staff participating in digital research, education, and initiatives related to digital projects.
  • Engage with faculty, staff, students, and external researchers of Archives & Special Collections on consultations and outreach activities in support of scholarship and research that uses the archival, special, and digital collections held by the Library
  • Serve on Library, University, and professional organization committees
Minimum Qualifications:
  • ALA-accredited Master's degree 
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Ability to balance multiple projects while working independently
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with digitization projects and preserving digital materials.
  • Experience working with digital asset management, digital repositories, digital exhibits, and/or other digital library systems (e.g. Preservica, CONTENTdm, Omeka).
  • Knowledge of the following standards: DACS, EAD, Dublin Core, METS, MODS.
  • Knowledge of content management system ArchivesSpace.
  • Familiarity with Alma/Primo.
  • Familiarity with web archiving applications (e.g. Conifer, Archive-It).
  • Experience working with legacy media.
  • Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) Certificate or continuing education coursework in digital archives.
Work Days:

Monday - Friday; 9am - 5pm some holidays required

Salary Range: $62,000 - $67,000. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
