Responsibilities
- Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for individual clients, small businesses, and self-employed individuals using advanced tax software.
- Gather and analyze financial documents such as W-2s, 1099s, receipts, and bank statements to ensure complete and accurate filings.
- Review client financial data for discrepancies or errors, applying strong analysis skills to resolve issues efficiently.
- Stay updated on current tax laws, regulations, and deadlines to ensure compliance and optimize client refunds or liabilities.
- Communicate complex tax concepts clearly to clients, providing guidance on deductions, credits, and financial strategies.
- Assist with bookkeeping tasks using accounting software like QuickBooks or Sage when necessary to support client records.
- Support marketing efforts by engaging with clients professionally and promoting our services for future engagements.
- Maintain organized records of all client files, correspondence, and completed returns in accordance with confidentiality standards.
- Collaborate with team members to manage workload peaks during the busy tax season while maintaining high-quality service standards.
Experience
- Prior experience in public accounting or a similar role involving tax preparation is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, financial concepts, and technical accounting practices.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks or Sage; familiarity with financial software tools is a plus.
- Strong math skills coupled with the ability to perform 10-key typing efficiently for data entry tasks.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly and professionally.
- Experience in financial sales or marketing is advantageous for promoting services and building client relationships.
- Attention to detail combined with analysis skills necessary for reviewing financial data accurately.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment during peak seasons.
