What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Store Manager position at UPS Store 5252?
About the Role
We're looking for an organized, personable Assistant Manager to help lead daily operations at our busy UPS Store location in St. Peters. This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys variety in their workday — one moment helping a customer navigate a shipping decision, the next reconciling the day's register totals or troubleshooting a printer jam. You'll work closely with the Store Manager to keep operations running smoothly, support and mentor associates, and make sure every customer leaves with what they need.
What You'll Do
- Oversee day-to-day store operations, opening/closing procedures, and staff scheduling in the Store Manager's absence
- Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service for shipping, packing, printing, mailbox, and notary services
- Process shipments accurately using UPS and third-party carrier systems (FedEx, USPS)
- Operate and troubleshoot store equipment: computers, POS systems, copiers, printers, laminators, and label/postage equipment
- Handle daily cash management: register counts, deposits, and basic reconciliation
- Assist with inventory tracking, ordering supplies, and monitoring shrinkage
- Review basic financial reports (daily sales, deposits, expense tracking) to support store performance goals
- Train, coach, and motivate associates on customer service standards and store procedures
- Resolve customer concerns and escalate issues professionally when needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-merchandised store
What We're Looking For
Technical Skills
- Comfortable learning and using point-of-sale systems, shipping software, and general office technology
- Basic computer proficiency (email, spreadsheets, POS/shipping platforms)
- Ability to troubleshoot common equipment issues (printers, copiers, mailing equipment)
People Skills
- Genuine, upbeat customer service style — you like solving problems for people
- Comfortable leading, training, and giving feedback to a small team
- Clear communicator who stays calm and professional during busy periods or customer concerns
Business & Accounting Fundamentals
- Understanding of basic accounting principles: cash handling, register reconciliation, deposits, and reading simple sales/expense reports
- Comfortable with basic math and attention to detail when handling money and transactions
- Prior retail, shipping, or small business experience is a plus
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or business coursework a plus
- 1 years of retail, customer service, or supervisory experience preferred but not required
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Reliable transportation and flexible availability, including some Saturdays
Why Join Us
- Competitive hourly pay ($17-$20/hr, based on experience)
- Opportunity to grow into store leadership
- Hands-on training in shipping, retail operations, and small business fundamentals
- Friendly, fast-paced work environment
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
