What are the responsibilities and job description for the Baker position at Uppercrust?
Uppercrust, Gainesville’s community artisan bakery since 1981 seeks three bakers!
These position assumes no professional/commercial baking experience, and can be part or full time. This period of the year - our slowest ok the calendar and most frequent period for team member housing lease endings - is one of the year’s best opportunities for training. You will be trained by kitchen shift leads and managers or trusted team members who work the station daily. The day is scheduled to be 6-9 hours depending on production and prep needs.
The positions are in pastry prep, and bread. They are separate positions. They will depend on our existing team’s cross training interests and yours.
Pastry is responsible for tartelette, cake, macaron and eclair prep. Bread is responsible for mixing, proofing, and shaping bread. This is physical work. Determination, speed, and strength are required for any baker to meet Uppercrust's standards — and for the baker to have a positive experience at work. Bakers must be prepared to:
- Wake up early
- Lift 50 pound flour bags, heavy bins, and stacks of sheet pans
- Work on your feet throughout the day
The following experience is helpful, but not required:
- Experience with knife work
- Experience with commercial prep work
- Experience with clean, organized work flow in a commercial kitchen setting
Far more important is who YOU are. We have trained many superb bakers. A good work ethic and curious attitude are the qualities that stand out in new and seasoned team members.
