Overview
Upper Valley Career Center is seeking a dedicated and passionate Medical Careers Academy Instructor to teach high school students. The instructor will deliver engaging instruction aligned to state and industry standards, giving students a solid foundation of knowledge in the healthcare pathway. The instructor will collaborate with the co-teachers to create lessons, provide hands-on training in clinical settings, and foster a supportive learning environment to ensure students gain the knowledge and skills necessary to gain employment in the medical field and prepare for higher education.
Program Description:
The Medical Careers Academy program provides students with a comprehensive foundation of knowledge and skills for those interested in the diverse and expanding healthcare field. The program is designed to equip students with essential healthcare fundamentals, preparing them for a variety of career pathways after graduation.
Students have the opportunity to earn multiple industry-recognized certifications, including Certified Nurse Aide, Elder Care, Stop the Bleed, First Aid/CPR, and OSHA 10-Hour Healthcare. In addition, students will develop practical medical assisting skills and have the opportunity to earn a Medical Assistant certification as the program continues to expand.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the program runs efficiently.
- Develop lessons that align with state and industry requirements.
- Deliver engaging instruction that promotes active learning and meets the needs of all students.
- Provide clinical training to equip students with the skills necessary to gain certifications and employment.
- Supervise students during clinical rotations, ensuring a high standard of patient care and professional conduct.
- Foster a positive learning environment to motivate students to achieve success.
- Supervise and assess student progress and performance, provide feedback, and support student growth.
- Establish and maintain relationships with industry professionals.
- Maintains accurate record-keeping of student information and ensures confidentiality.
- Embodies high ethical standards.
- Participate in district initiatives and meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must complete all requirements for teacher education and licensure.
- Minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in the healthcare field.
- Holds a current, unrestricted Ohio license to practice nursing.
- An associate's degree or higher in the related field is preferred.
- Holds a Medical Assisting certification (NHA-CCMA or AAMA-CMA) or can acquire.
- Experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
- Has a strong desire to work with and develop students.
- Ability to actively manage a classroom/lab and monitor student behavior.
- Ability to work with a teaching partner to develop lessons and provide instruction.
- Establishes and maintains professional relationships with students, peers, families, and industry professionals.
- Possesses excellent social skills and serves as a role model to students.
- Has strong oral and written communication and classroom management skills.
- Displays effective problem-solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
- Meets the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educator qualifications.
- Meets all mandated health screening requirements.
- Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Able to successfully pass a BCI/FBI background check.
- Maintains compliance with drug-free workplace rules, Board policies, and other applicable procedures/guidelines.
