Position: 1.0 Music Teacher contract (Strings Specialist)
Location: .6 Fort Couch/.4 High School
Assignment Dates: 2026- 2027 School Year (August 2026)
Summary:
Teaches 7th-12th grade strings and music electives at various levels; works cooperatively with staff and is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, and facilitating music curriculum and instruction to individual and small groups of students (strings lessons) and full orchestral ensembles, in and out of the classroom.
Responsibilities/Essential Duties:
- Assists in the instructional delivery of the Upper St. Clair District music curriculum.
- Instructs students at their level to ensure each student’s progress by as much individualized instruction as possible.
- Maintain discipline and utilize appropriate classroom management techniques
- In collaboration with the Principal(s) and Curriculum Leader(s), presents concerts or programs as dictated by the instruction needs of the students and the valid expectations of the community.
- In collaboration with the Principal(s) and Curriculum Leader (s), selects music for performances which will further the student’s musical technique, understanding, and appreciation.
- Assists in the preparation for and supervises students in the various performances and assessments throughout the year, if applicable.
- Prepares paperwork such as inventory, purchase orders, instrumental check-out forms, report cards, attendance, library records.
- Supervises students at all performances, rehearsals, and on trips, both during and beyond the school day.
- Confer with students, parents, school counselors and administrators to resolve student problems; Maintains prompt and professional communication with parents.
- Cooperate and collaborate with other staff members, including classroom teachers, as necessary
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Middle School and High School Principals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education
- PK-12 Pennsylvania teaching certificate in Music
- Excellent teaching and classroom management skills.
- Successfully establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, administration and parents.
- Effective oral and written communication.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of overall operation of music programs.
- Performance expertise on one or more instruments (string instrument required, piano preferred).
- Knowledge of conducting principles and practices.
- Ability to implement policy and procedures.
- Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge of subjects assigned with a strong emphasis on music.
- Exhibit general knowledge of curriculum and instruction; basic computer skills.
