What are the responsibilities and job description for the ENRICHMENT TEACHER position at Upper Room KC?
Summer Enrichment Teacher supports Upper Room KC mission to halt summer learning loss and improve fall school readiness in the urban community. Enrichment teachers will lead enrichment programs and enhance project-based learning activities during the eight-week summer program. We hire qualified educators, college students, and community members to compliment classroom instruction and our students’ learning experiences.
Primary Job Functions:
- Developing and implementing appropriate enrichment classes for assigned grade levels.
- Preparing classrooms for daily activities and collaborating with academic teachers and teacher’s assistants to ensure that objectives are reached.
- To adhere to and enforce policies and procedures set forth in the Upper Room Programs’ Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.
- Creating a positive, achievement-oriented, organized and engaging learning environment.
- Receive guidance and direction from the Site Director and Summer School Coordinator.
- Empowering students to make positive choices and serving as a role model.
- Ensuring enrichment goals are met for each student.
- Creating and directing project-based learning.
Qualifications:
- Certification in Art, Music, Physical Education, etc. from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education preferred.
- Minimum of two years teaching experience with K-8 children.
- Must pass a child abuse/neglect screening for child care workers and criminal background check.
- Requires the ability to work well and communicate with children, parents, and program personnel.
- Requires skills in planning, directing and conducting activities to meet program goals (i.e. establish priorities, manage workload).
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
