The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team. This position is a terrific opportunity for someone to gain additional experience and make a difference in the lives of our clients.
For over 45 forty-five years, our organization has provided mental health and holistic services in northern Manhattan for families, children, adolescents, and other adults including the elderly in a supportive and caring environment. We also have an out-patient and residential substance abuse program as well as a Therapeutic Preschool for 3-5 year olds.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Job Location: Children Adolescent Department
Hours: On site workdays required, hybrid schedule available
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- As a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, and under the supervision of a psychiatrist (if required), the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will provide advanced clinical psychiatric care:
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for children and adolescents (ages 7-21), including psychosocial, developmental, and trauma histories
- Diagnose mental health conditions using DSM5TR criteria and support development of individualized, evidence-based treatment plans
- Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications while assessing therapeutic response and side effects, providing ongoing medication management and follow-up care for child and adolescent clients
- Order, interpret, and evaluate required/recommended diagnostic and/or laboratory tests
- Communicate and coordinate comprehensive mental health treatment with parents, guardians, foster parents, and other caregivers, including the provision of psychoeducation regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and medication use
- Collaborate with therapists, case managers, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated care, including within case conferences to review treatment progress and service needs
- Work closely with child welfare agencies, including foster care systems and child protective services, to support clients/families involved in these systems
- Coordinate care with schools, pediatricians, and community providers when appropriate
- Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation in accordance with clinic policies and regulatory requirements (NYS OMH)
- Apply trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices when working with children, adolescents, and families
- Support crisis intervention and risk assessment as needed
- Stay informed on best practices in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychopharmacology
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- NY State Medicaid/Medicare License
- Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited nurse practitioner program is required.
- Currently licensed in New York State as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
- Active DEA Number (NYS)
- MAT Certified
- Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) required
- Demonstrated experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults, including those involved in child welfare systems (e.g., foster care, child protective services)
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and the impact of adverse childhood experiences
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and community partners
- Excellent communication, assessment, and clinical decision-making skills
- Commitment to supporting vulnerable youth and families in a community mental health setting
- Bilingual/English Spanish preferred
Reports to: Program Director & Chief Medical Officer
Pay: $150,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
Work Location: Hybrid remote in New York, NY 10031
