Upper Darby Township is seeking a highly motivated Special Projects Assistant to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to support executive leadership through strategic project management, research, analysis, and coordination. This role is ideal for a professional who enjoys tackling complex initiatives, working across departments, and contributing to impactful public-sector work. This is not an administrative assistant position; the Special Projects Assistant serves as a key partner to the CAO and plays a hands-on role in advancing township-wide priorities.
The Special Projects Assistant works closely with the Chief Administrative Officer to advance township-wide priorities through project management, research, writing, analysis, and coordination. The role includes researching and recommending improvements to municipal systems, policies, and initiatives, as well as preparing reports, presentations, and other professional materials that inform decision-making. The Assistant also coordinates special projects, meetings, and events at the direction of the CAO, serving as a key point of contact between the CAO, municipal departments, partner agencies, and the community. In addition, the position requires attending meetings, representing the CAO when assigned, and handling confidential matters with discretion, professionalism, and tact.
Requirements
Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field, along with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in municipal government or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates should have a working knowledge of public administration principles, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to prepare professional written materials and presentations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications—including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and electronic communication tools—is required, as is the ability to deliver clear and effective presentations using a variety of media.

Monday-Friday 9:00AM-4:30PM, With some evenings
Pay Range
$75,000
