Upper Darby Township is seeking a dedicated Parking Enforcement Officer/Ticket Writer to help ensure safe and orderly streets through fair and consistent enforcement of local parking ordinances. This position plays a key role in supporting traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and accessibility across the Township.
Parking Enforcement Officers patrol assigned areas on foot or by Township vehicle, identify and document parking violations, issue citations, and provide information to the public about parking regulations and Township services. The role also includes tasks such as immobilizing vehicles when necessary, installing temporary “no parking” signage, and performing basic vehicle checks. Officers routinely interact with residents, visitors, and business owners, requiring professionalism, courtesy, and strong communication skills; especially in conflict related situations. The position may also require court appearances for contested violations. Ideal candidates enjoy working outdoors, staying active, and making informed decisions independently while representing the Township with integrity and respect.
Requirements
Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work flexible hours (including evenings, weekends, and holidays). Applicants should demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle conflicts with professionalism. Candidates must also be able to learn Township parking regulations, operate handheld technology, and maintain accurate documentation. Successful completion of a background check and drug screening is required.
Preferred qualifications include prior experience in parking enforcement, security, or customer service roles, as well as familiarity with the local area. Applicants should be able to work in all weather conditions and perform repetitive tasks such as writing citations or using handheld devices.
