Job Summary
The position of SYSTEM OPERATOR is currently open in the Upper Columbia Irrigation District. This fulltime position is located in CHELAN (HOWARD FLAT UNIT) OR ORONDO (BRAYS LANDING UNIT)
WASHINGTON.
This position works with a team of operators to deliver irrigation water to over 4,000 acres of land in the Howard
Flat and Brays Landing areas. This area contains over 50 pumping units, 7 reservoirs, and 30 miles of pipelines.

Position Requirements
Must be available to work Monday-Friday, including selected weekends, holidays, and outside normal working hours when scheduled to be “on-call”.
Must live within 15-minutes of the service area which generally includes the Howard Flatts area near Chelan,
Washington.
Position Qualifications
- Valid Washington State driver’s license required
- Basic knowledge of pumps, motors, and electrical equipment preferred
- Class A CDL license preferred
- WSDA public pesticide license preferred
Compensation
Wage dependent on experience and licenses ($25-$35/hr); medical, dental, vision insurance fully paid by District for employee and family ($26,200/year value); 12 paid holidays, starting 12 days annual leave and 12 days sick leave;
WA State Public Employees Retirement System (employer contribution 9.39% of salary to retirement), District provided housing may be available.

Systems Operator
The Irrigation Operator and Maintenance position is responsible for the delivery of irrigation water to water users and will perform maintenance tasks as assigned.
This is a fulltime position that may be based at the East Wenatchee District Headquarters or Brays Landing or Howard
Flats units. Normal office hours are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Additional hours outside of normal working hours are expected, such as selected evenings, weekends, and holidays when on-call.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Operate all necessary equipment and infrastructure essential for transmitting, storing, and delivering irrigation water.
- Operate pumps, valves, and other equipment manually and remotely.
- Inspect, adjust, and maintain pumps, motors, electrical and other equipment and irrigation infrastructure.
- Observe and enforce District safety rules;
- Maintain necessary records and reports;
- Control operations using SCADA and PC based computer systems;
- Perform maintenance and construction work including, but not limited to maintenance of pumps, motors, electrical equipment, vehicles and equipment, water meters, reservoirs, watermains, and District rights-of-way and lands.
- Be on-call during selected evenings, weekends, and holidays to respond to emergencies.
Qualifications:
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
- Experience in water operations, general construction and maintenance, or other relevant experience.
- High School diploma, GED or comparable education.
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations;
- Knowledge of pumps, electricity, and mechanical devices;
- Knowledge of basic construction practices.
Ability to:
- Ability to assess changing conditions and initiate appropriate action;
- Ability to work with minimal supervision;
- Ability to prepare clear, complete, and concise written reports and records;
- Ability to follow oral and written instruction;
- Ability to perform all duties in a safe manner;
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others.
Licenses and Certificates:
- Washington State Class A commercial Driver License preferred.
- Washington State Public Pesticide Operators License with Right-of-Way and Aquatic Irrigation endorsements preferred.
