- Rate of Pay: $23.72 to $29.79 / hour (Depending on experience and assignment)
- Employment Status: Regular / Full-Time
- Reports To: Assigned Coordinator of Special Education and Teacher
Job Objective: Performs a variety of classroom support and student personal care services as directed under the supervision of an assigned teacher.
Minimum Qualifications: To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ohio Department of Education Permit appropriate for the assignment.
- Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
- Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test).
Skills & Abilities:
- Self-directed and able to learn the required skills for the position.
- Ability to physically manage students with disabilities.
- Congenial disposition and strong diplomacy skills.
- Ability to cope with stressful traffic, weather conditions, and passenger distractions.
- Successful completion and periodic renewal of state-mandated and service center training (e.g., communicable disease, child abuse, CPR, first aid, and/or behavioral management).
- This assignment may require a valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and/or completion of van driver training. Employees must meet qualifications to be covered by the service center's insurance carrier.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Checks with the teacher for instructions; works with small groups and/or individual students. Seeks advice when expectations are unclear.
- Helps students with remedial and/or enrichment activities.
- Reinforces the teacher's instructional objectives and maintains a positive learning environment.
- Offers help when students ask or their behavior suggests assistance is needed, while avoiding being intrusive. Solves student concerns discreetly.
- Supports an inclusive educational environment, helping students with disabilities participate in peer group activities.
- Assists with student mobility needs and helps students use assistive and/or augmentative devices.
- Positions students to take full advantage of each learning environment (e.g., line of sight, proximity to equipment, height of work surfaces).
- Follows prescribed medical plans and/or assists students with personal hygiene care (e.g., toileting, catheterization, feeding) as trained by a licensed healthcare professional.
- Upholds board policies and follows administrative guidelines and procedures.
- Promotes a favorable image of the service center and supports community/school partnerships.
- Remains free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances in the workplace throughout employment.
