    POLICY STATEMENT

    The Intermediate School Assistant Principal is directly responsible to the Intermediate School Principal with support to the overall intermediate programs throughout the district. With their approval, the assistant principal is responsible for all aspects involved in the operation of the Intermediate School level, including the educational programs, finances, personnel (students, instructional and non-instructional), public relations, all curricular and co-curricular student activities, food services, health services and building maintenance.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Administration
      • Monitor student attendance and undertake all actions related to student truancy.
      • Be responsible for enforcing necessary discipline for students. Maintain appropriate recordkeeping of all discipline infractions.
      • Act as a chairperson for 504 plan and FBA meetings.
      • Act as LEA for IEP and MDE meetings as directed by the building principal.
      • Assist in organizing coverage of classes and other duties as needed.
      • Assist in supervising student arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess.
      • Be responsible for enforcing school board policies and building regulations.
      • Work with the elementary principal(s) in all matters of overall school administration duties, as the principal may deem necessary and assign.
      • Assist in creating and fostering a positive school climate.
    • Curriculum/Instruction/Professional Development
      • Cooperate in the planning and scheduling of student programs for instruction and assessment.
      • Plan, assist, and/or conduct professional development for both professional and classified staff.
      • Guide professional staff in data analysis and goal development to improve student achievement.
    • Personnel/Supervision
      • Conduct classroom observations and complete observation reports.
      • Hold pre-observation and post-observation conferences with professional staff before and after all observations.
      • Review professional portfolios created by professional staff.
      • Evaluate student learning objectives developed by professional staff.
      • Use information gathered from observations, professional portfolios and student learning objectives to evaluate professional staff using the state form.
      • Assist in the scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of classified staff.
    • Public Relations
      • Assist the principal in all matters concerning and maintaining public relations.
    • Other
      • Assist in the interviewing and screening of professional applicants for the elementary school.
      • Assist in the planning and preparing of the PSSA materials.
      • All other duties as assigned.
    QUALIFICATIONS

    A. Master’s Degree
    B. Pennsylvania Principal’s Certification
    C. 5-7 years of experience with minimum of 5 years successful satisfactory years in education
    D. Valid Driver’s License

    Physical Demands: Constant bending, twisting, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
    Constantly alternating between sitting and standing.
    Normally does not work at heights above ten feet.
    Normally does not lift any object weighing more than fifty pounds

    Sensory Abilities: Visual acuity
    Auditory acuity

    Work Environment: Typical administrative office and school environment.
    Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
    Occasional travel to off-site environments.

    Temperament: Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
    Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
    Able to make judgments and work under high levels of stress.

    Cognitive Ability: To follow directions and give direction to others.

    To communicate, comprehend and perform complex computations.
    To use correct grammar, sentence structure and spelling.
    To compose clear, concise sentences and paragraphs.
    To organize office setting to efficiently accomplish tasks.

    To exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks.
    To communicate effectively at all organizational levels.

    Specific Skills: Ability to operate office equipment.
    Ability to use computer technology efficiently including word processing, presentation/webpage software, PowerPoint and Excel software applications.
    Ability to appropriately handle confidential information in accordance with District policies.
    Ability to use technology for group meetings, presentations (i.e. overhead, document camera, projector and video equipment).

    The Elementary School Assistant Principal shall establish lines of communication and cooperation with the following personnel:
    • Faculty and support staff
    • District administration
    • Community
