What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sonographer Specialist position at UPMC?
Shift: Primarily Daylight, occasional evenings and weekends. Majority spent at Passavant with occasional float to other locations.

Purpose:
In addition to performing imaging procedures at an advanced level, provides technical expertise to multiple business units. Functions as a resource to staff to provide orientation, continuing education and protocol development.
Responsibilities:
- May be responsible for High Level Disinfection of devices, supplies and/or equipment
- Creates and implements new training programs, where applicable, and assists with the startup of new offsite locations. Responsibilities for new locations include, but are not limited to, working on reporting systems, obtaining appropriate images and effectively communicating with attending physicians as well as co-workers and patients
- Assist with accreditation responsibilities.
- Attends advanced training sessions and seminars in order to maintain industry standards in imaging techniques and disseminates information to imaging departmental leadership and as a part of new hire orientation.
- Responsible for tech quality assurance program and the reviewing and updating of protocols alongside of or in place of the lead sonographer. Assumes leadership role in training staff on new equipment
- Perform ultrasound diagnostic examinations in accordance with Level I and Level II Advanced Sonographer.
- Serves as a technical resource to sonographers on a daily operational basis. Assist technologist with continuing education needs and participates as a peer delegate in staff annual performance reviews.
- Leads training on new techniques and protocols for research studies and collaborates with radiologists and researchers where applicable to identify new techniques and problem-solving resolutions.
