 Join the Perianesthesia team at UPMC Hanover as a Professional Staff Nurse and provide safe, individualized care across the perioperative continuum, including pre-operative preparation, Phase I PACU, and Phase II recovery. In this role, you will assess and prepare patients for procedures, monitor patients following anesthesia, administer medications and therapies, evaluate discharge readiness, provide patient and family education, and collaborate closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, operating room staff, and other members of the care team.

Responsibilities: 

• Provide safe, individualized nursing care throughout the perioperative continuum, including Pre-Op, Phase I PACU, and Phase II recovery, using ongoing assessment, clinical judgment, and established standards of care.

• Complete preoperative assessments, verify required documentation and consents, review medications and allergies, obtain and monitor IV access, complete ordered testing and medications, and ensure patients are appropriately prepared for surgery or procedures.

• Receive and recover patients following anesthesia by closely monitoring airway, respiratory and cardiovascular status, neurological status, pain, nausea/vomiting, surgical sites, and other potential post-anesthesia complications. Initiate appropriate nursing interventions and escalate changes in condition as needed.

• Safely administer IV fluids, medications, pain management, antiemetics, antibiotics, and other ordered therapies. Perform nursing interventions in accordance with hospital policy, medication-safety practices, and applicable perianesthesia standards.

• Evaluate patients for progression through phases of recovery and discharge readiness. Provide patient and family education regarding medications, pain management, activity, wound care, follow-up, and warning signs while coordinating care with anesthesia, surgeons/proceduralists, OR staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to support safe transitions of care.

Work Schedule: Three 8-hour shifts each week, with on-call responsibilities once every other week and an on-call weekend rotation.
