The Resource Pool provides ad hoc staffing solutions for special needs or disruptions in the hospital’s workforce, such as in the case of vacancies, call-offs, and surges in patient census. Resource staff float to all areas of the hospital (including Med-Surg, ICU, PACU, and Emergency Department); Resource staff also opens and staffs overflow units during high census, so a high level of autonomy and self-direction is required. To work in the Resource Pool, you must be especially flexible, knowledgeable, and responsive. This is a great opportunity to work in various units such as the Emergency Department, PACU, Acute Care, and step-down areas.
Resource nurses receive a 10% rate differential, not to exceed the max of the pay range.

- Previous step down, emergency department, telemedicine, or acute care experience preferred
- No degree preference- ASN, BSN, MSN all welcome!
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- UPMC approved national certification required
- Not required if candidate has MSN or DNP
- Annual completion of a contribution required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance
