The Certified Pharmacy Technician is an important step in the UPMC Pharmacy Career Ladder:
- Pharmacy Technician: $19.74 – $29.67/hour
- Certified Pharmacy Technician: $20.45 – $30.68/hour

Responsibilities:
- Repackage, prepare, and accurately label medications, IV solutions, non-sterile compounds, and automated dispensing cabinets under pharmacist supervision.
- Perform calculations, complete all required documentation, and ensure pharmacist review before dispensing.
- Deliver medications to patient care units, manage transfers, and remove expired or recalled medications.
- Understand and follow proper handling procedures for controlled substances.
- Answer phones, assist customers, and manage pneumatic tube station operations.
- Fill and deliver interdepartmental orders, maintaining accurate logs and records.
- Operate pharmacy equipment including computers, fax machines, printers, automated dispensing cabinets, and telephones.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment by restocking, cleaning workstations, and returning medications to stock.
- Promote UPMC Pinnacle’s Mission, Vision, and Values while participating in performance improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with nursing, physicians, and other hospital personnel; may travel to other UPMC Pinnacle facilities as needed.
