What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Safety Specialist- UMPC Greene position at UPMC?
Purpose:

Responsibilities:
- Deliver ongoing patient safety education, both formal and informal, to hospital staff across all departments.
Investigate patient safety risks through rounds, chart reviews, interviews, inspections, and other methods.
Ensure compliance with the hospital’s Patient Safety Plan, objectives, and national patient safety goals.
Monitor and implement regulatory requirements from federal and state agencies related to patient safety.
Review safety occurrences with physicians, managers, and department heads, identify trends, and recommend actions.
Maintain investigative, claim, and legal files with strict confidentiality; assist legal counsel during litigation.
Communicate significant safety events and potential claims promptly through established reporting mechanisms.
Contribute to hospital-wide performance improvement by gathering and analyzing data in collaboration with peers.
Participate in the on-call rotation to remain informed of patient safety incidents as they occur.
Act as a role model to promote and sustain a strong culture of patient safety throughout the organization.
Schedule: This position will primarily work Monday-Friday, 7AM-3:30PM. There may be some required on-call needed. You will need to be able to travel to the UPMC Washington facility about 2-3 per week.
