Purpose

The Patient Care Technician – Specialist plays a key role in delivering safe, high‑quality, patient‑centered care. This position supports nurses and clinical teams by performing essential clinical and personal care tasks, ensuring a clean and safe environment, and contributing to efficient unit operations. Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Support

  • Provide high‑quality, culturally sensitive care while supporting a safe and respectful environment for patients and staff.

    • Activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, repositioning)
    • Vital signs, weights, intake/output
    • Point‑of‑care testing (including blood glucose)

  • Support unit workflow by responding to call lights, phones, transporting patients, and assisting with meal trays.
  • Transport cardiac‑monitored patients safely within the hospital.
  • Complete clerical tasks as needed to support unit efficiency.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with nurses and healthcare providers to support patient care plans.

Qualifications

  • This position can be downgraded to a PCT Sr or PCT based on experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must meet one of the following experience pathways:
    • a) Two years of general healthcare experience and eligibility for the Patient Care Technician – Senior title, OR
    • b) One year of qualifying experience and current enrollment in a PT, OT, or PA program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR
    • c) One year of qualifying experience and completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
  • Successful completion of the Patient Care Technician Specialist training class.
  • Successful completion of eRecord training.
  • Annual completion of a professional contribution, to be determined after hire.
  • Nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation are preferred.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic experience—or current enrollment in an EMT/Paramedic program—is preferred.
  • May require successful completion of the appropriate cardiac rhythm course based on organizational and unit guidelines.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

  • CPR certification required within 30 days of hire (AHA standards including didactic and skills demonstration).
  • ACLS certification preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
  • Act 34 clearance required.
