Looking for an opportunity to make a difference in patient care? Join our team as a Patient Care Technician II in the Emergency Department! You'll play a vital role in providing top-notch care and supporting departmental services, working closely with nurses and physicians to ensure our patients receive the highest quality care.
After completing specialized training and annual competencies, you'll take on advanced patient care duties, building on core responsibilities like monitoring blood glucose levels, recording weights and vital signs, managing intake and output (I&O), collecting specimens, and providing Foley catheter care.
Expand your skills even further by completing a basic arrhythmia class and performing at least six additional key tasks, such as conducting 12-lead EKGs, changing simple dressings, removing Foley catheters, performing point-of-care testing, conducting bladder scans, or removing IV catheters.
Position Responsibilities:
Patient Care Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care, assisting with daily living activities and procedures.
- Perform UPMC core nursing assistant duties, including blood glucose monitoring, vital signs, weights, I&O, specimen collection, and Foley care.
- Execute specialized tasks such as phlebotomy, 12-lead EKGs, bladder scans, Foley catheter removal, IV insertion/removal, straight catheterization, simple dressings, and point-of-care testing after completing required training.
- Provide feedback to the RN about patient care and report changes in patient status.
- Assist with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
- Educate patients and families under RN guidance and follow hospital protocols for restraints.
- Safely transport cardiac-monitored patients within the hospital.
Communication and Relationships
- Establish respectful, professional relationships with patients and colleagues.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with the healthcare team and other departments.
- Respond to call lights and telephones and contribute to overall unit efficiency.
Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to all policies and procedures related to patient care and hospital information.
