University of Pittsburgh Physicians are hiring a full-time Opthalmic Imager III to join their team in Aspinwall, PA! In this position you will work Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm. No evenings, weekends, or holidays required! You will assist with Ophthalmic testing: Fluorescein angiography, color fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, OCT angiography, retinal thickness analysis, slit lamp and gonio photography, visual field testing, external photos, scans, and manual scans. On site parking is available!
Purpose:
Perform a variety of highly skilled duties associated with the operation of specialized equipment to assist physicians in the examination and treatment of diseases of the eye.
Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of highly skilled duties associated with the operation of specialized equipment to assist physicians in documenting, diagnosing, and treating diseases of the eye, including fluorescein angiography, ICG angiography, color fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, OCT angiography, retinal thickness analysis, slit lamp and goniophotography, visual field testing, external photos, and a-scans
- Trains and tests staff on imaging skills and competencies. Monitors staff and works with supervisor in proving mentorship for imaging skills. Produces publication quality images. Maintains advanced ophthalmic photography skills.
- Performs clinical and administrative duties in support of imaging area.
- Provides education to students, residents, and staff; assists in orienting and mentoring staff.
- Manages patient care and assists with patient flow in imaging area.
- Reviews physician's orders and patient's medical history and allergies in Epic prior to performing imaging and photography.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and condition of the patients serviced in the department. Provides for care and/or extends services as described in department policies and procedures.
- Explains imaging procedures to patient, obtains consent and provides instruction during imaging, including fluorescein angiography and ICG angiography.
- Perform intravenous administration of fluorescein and ICG dye for angiography, as well as Visudyne for photodynamic therapy (PDT) procedures, as ordered by the physician. Notifies the physician in the event of adverse reaction and provides for patient safety/comfort and documents in Epic.
- Functioning knowledge of eye pathologies and understanding of how best to photograph each differently and document phases of angiographic studies using fundus camera. Must be able to recognize the difference between healthy and concerning areas to identify where to photograph. Recognize the importance of taking additional images as well as the requested images if unusual or unexpected pathology is apparent.
- Recognize problems or malfunctions of photographic, diagnostic, and related equipment versus patient media opacities. May assist in making minor adjustments and perform preventive maintenance in accordance with established procedures. Advises supervisor of malfunctions or problems affecting the accuracy and quality of scans or images requiring repair by vendor.
- Recognize and help rectify issues with image import into Forum, image archiving and storage and managing duplicate patients, including contacting IT/Forum group as required.
- Access and review previous patient notes within Epic.
- Maintain adequate levels of supplies for imaging department and notifies supervisor of supplies needing to be ordered.
- Able to train technicians to perform fluorescein angiography, ICG angiography, phlebotomy, optical coherence tomography, Humphrey visual field, fundus photography, a-scans, corneal topography, external photos.
- Participates in the collection of patient history and complete ocular workup such as visual acuity, ocular history, vital signs, intraocular pressure, and records results in patient record.
- Ophthalmic imaging procedures which may include but are not limited to fluorescein angiography, ICG angiography, OCT, Anterior OCT, HRT, Color fundus photos, corneal topography, visual fields, a-scans, b-scans, external photos.
- Ophthalmic procedures / assessments including but not limited to visual acuity tests and instilling eye drops in accordance with established approved protocols for patient safety.
- Ability to edit and transfer images from digital camera to the patient database in Forum and Epic.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy of the eye and ophthalmic disease processes.
