5 East – Acute Care / Trauma Stepdown
5 East is a 23-bed trauma stepdown and medical-surgical unit where nurses care for patients recovering from acute surgical procedures and complex trauma, including orthopedic injuries and motor vehicle accidents. This unit emphasizes post-surgical recovery, mobility progression, and team-based care through a collaborative care-partner model.
7 East – Neurology / Oncology
7 East is a 25-bed neuro-focused unit offering experience with a wide range of neurological conditions, including stroke, seizures, brain tumors, and post-craniotomy care, along with general medical-surgical patients. Nurses build strong neurological assessment skills and have opportunities for future specialization, including chemotherapy certification.
6 West is a fast-paced medical-surgical unit where nurses care for patients across the full continuum of acute care, from short observation stays to more complex admissions involving multiple body systems. The unit promotes a team-based care model, providing a strong foundation in broad clinical skills, collaboration, and communication.

What Does Placement Look Like Post-GNRP?
- Upon completion of the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program, placements are determined by participant preference, Hiring Manager preference, and business need through a collaborative matching process at UPMC Williamsport.
Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education.
Shift/Hours: Our RNs work a rotating 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor and are assigned every other weekend/holiday. GNRP Participants will be able to select either Days with Rotation or Night Shift while participating in the program.
