What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director - East Side Surgery Center position at UPMC?
UPMC is hiring a full-time Director to lead and support our East Side Surgery Center! This position will serve as the clinical administrator for the surgery center and have oversight of all operations, compliance with regulatory requirements, and clinical care provided at the center.
The Director is responsible for:
- Planning, organizing, and evaluating operations for all services at the Surgery Center
- Managing and overseeing all clinical and financial operations for all departmental cost centers
- Working directly with administrative director and physician division chiefs to meet department's goals and mission
- Facilitating the recruitment, orientation, and training of employees and is directly responsible that all hospital policies and procedures to assure compliance with regulatory standards.
This position will primarily work Monday through Friday, daylight hours, but will need to be available if the need arises. The ideal candidate would have experience with building surgeon relationships, data driven decision making, budgeting, QI, and regulatory compliance experience. Previous surgical management experience highly preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Interview, hire, orient, coach, train, schedule, evaluate and discipline staff. Create a work environment conducive to productive performance and job satisfaction.
- Responsible for medical surgical expenses and justifications as it relates to new products, equipment and supply/implant usage in collaboration with Business Manager and Purchasing Manager.
- Serve as Director of Nursing to coordinate staffing, scheduling and general oversight of day to day operational activities. These responsibilities may be delegated to another qualified clinician as designated by leadership.
- Collaborate with physician department heads and managers to establish quality service standards. Ensure that standards are maintained and addresses areas that do not meet standards.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures which enhance/improve the practice of nursing care in the Surgery Center and are consistent with AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses) practices. Ensure policies and procedures meet all JCAHO, OSHA and DOH regulations.
- Participate and contribute to the development of the overall goals and plans for the outpatient surgical services. Actively participate in the development and growth of surgery center operations. Work with schedulers to develop efficient physician OR schedules. Assume 24 hour responsibility for department operations.
- Develop internal and external customer relationships (medical staff, employees, patients, parents, and payers). Identify customer needs, develop systems to monitor satisfaction, and develop operating plans to address areas of dissatisfaction.
- Participate in the review of the overall nursing care program, and implements improvements as needed.
