Virtual Safety Attendant (Casual)

UPMC Corporate Health Services is hiring a Virtual Safety Attendant to join our team!  This role will work at the Forbes Tower in Oakland. This Casual role will work varied days, which could include weekends and holidays.  This position will have shifts that consist of four-, eight-, ten- and twelve-hour shifts.  The candidate will work hours based on department needs as well as their availability.

The role provides continuous virtual observation of assigned patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. The virtual Safety Attendant (VSA) serves as a critical member of the care team by monitoring patients via secured audio-visual technology to reduce risk and enhance safety. This role does not involve hands-on patient care and focuses exclusively on virtual monitoring, verbal intervention, and timely escalation. The VSA adheres to all institutional safety, privacy, and professionalism standards.

Responsibilities:

• Transformational Leadership: The VSA suggests and supports improvements within the department, assumes responsibility for assigned monitoring station, and views problems as opportunities for service enhancement. Demonstrates awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning and morale of the department.

• Care Delivery: Provides continuous visual and auditory observation of patients using two-way monitoring equipment, ensuring attentiveness throughout shift. When patient behaviors present safety risk, the VSA delivers clear and respectful verbal redirection and immediately notifies the appropriate clinical staff. Provide patients with basic explanations, when necessary, without offering clinical opinions or personal advice. VSA's identifies and report visible safety hazards in patient rooms, monitors for escalating behaviors, and contributes to maintaining a safe and dignified environment for all patients. In the event of an emergency or patient poses a threat to themselves or others, the VSA seeks help or initiates escalation procedures without delay. Participates in communication hand-off of pertinent information and behavior regarding assigned patients at beginning and upon completion of the shift assignment. 

  Provides feedback to the RN/Clinical Team regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.

• High school diploma or equivalent. 
• Successful completion of UPMC Care Attendant-Telesitter training programs 
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. 
• Customer service experience preferred.

• One year of experience in a hospital or safety-sensitive environment preferred.
