RN Director of Quality & Risk
Overview
We seek an experienced RN Director of Quality & Risk to lead quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation programs for a 300-bed acute care hospital in Southern West Virginia.
This executive nursing leader oversees Quality/Performance Improvement, Risk Management, and Medical Staff Office operations while serving as the facility’s Patient Safety Officer and Ethics & Compliance Officer.
The Director works closely with senior leadership, medical staff, and clinical teams to advance care excellence, ensure regulatory readiness, and foster a culture of safety, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the activities and personnel within Quality/Performance Improvement, Risk Management, and the Medical Staff Office.
- Serve as the Patient Safety Officer and Ethics & Compliance Officer for the hospital.
- Ensure facility-wide regulatory and accreditation compliance, including CMS and The Joint Commission readiness.
- Lead quality and performance improvement initiatives focused on patient outcomes and clinical excellence.
- Oversee and implement the hospital’s Ethics & Compliance Program, ensuring adherence to federal healthcare program requirements.
- Conduct independent compliance investigations and ensure appropriate corrective actions.
- Promote a culture where colleagues feel safe reporting concerns or potential violations.
- Coordinate Core Measures activities and support organizational quality dashboards and reporting.
- Partner with senior leadership to advance strategic goals and enhance patient experience.
- Manage departmental budgets, staffing, and fiscal performance.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required.
- Licensure: Active and unrestricted West Virginia RN license OR a multistate compact RN license (West Virginia participates in the NLC).
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- CPHRM and CPPS certifications required (within two years of employment).
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of RN acute care experience required.
- Previous quality, patient safety, or risk management experience required.
- Prior RN leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
