Primary Responsibility: To design, build and maintain applications for data management, analytics, and visualization of breeding, genetic/molecular and phenomics data to support the Global R&D requirements of Advanta. This position will also support the development of a multi-layer APIs-based system to connect database and applications in backend and frontend.


Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate business needs and objective from Plant Science and Data Science viewpoints, in relation to the development of applications for breeding programs.
  • Analyze and understand the pipeline of current data processing/applications in Advanta
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of proprietary applications in Advanta
  • Collaborate with the research users (such as breeders, phenomics/molecular scientists, statisticians) and IT to adopt APIs based applications
  • Build APIs-based applications in Cloud system
  • Prepare user’s manual and train users in the use of applications
  • Maintain and provide support on proprietary applications
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Job Skills & Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a software engineer or developer, or alternately in a similar role
  • Knowledge of programming language (preference in R/Python)
  • Knowledge of web-based programming language (Java/PHP/HTML, etc.)
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to identify and satisfy the needs of internal customers and continuously search for ways to provide value-added solutions.
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work within an international breeding team and to clearly communicate computational concepts.
  • A strong interest in learning more about Plant Science, particularly genetics and breeding.
  • Proficiency in solving complex problems with creative and effective solutions.

Educational Background: Masters/PhD degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, IT or experience in similar field.
