Our client is seeking an experienced Conventional Machinist to join our manufacturing team in Morgantown, WV. This position is responsible for setting up and operating manual machine tools, including engine lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders, to produce or repair precision metal components. The ideal candidate has strong blueprint-reading skills, experience holding tight tolerances, and a commitment to quality and safety.
Essential Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and other conventional machining equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders.
- Machine metal components to precise dimensions and tolerances.
- Perform threading, boring, drilling, milling, turning, and facing operations.
- Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machine attachments.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges.
- Make machine adjustments to ensure quality and accuracy throughout production.
- Perform routine maintenance and keep equipment in good working condition.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience operating conventional/manual machine tools required.
- Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
- Proficient with precision measuring instruments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience working to close tolerances is preferred.
- Basic welding or fabrication experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive movements throughout the shift.
