KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
YOUTH SUPPORT & BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTIONS
- Build positive relationships with youth and serve as a trusted adult mentor.
- Observe, assess, and respond to behavioral and social-emotional needs within Club settings.
- Provide individual and small-group skill-building support focused on self-regulation, conflict resolution, coping skills, emotional awareness, decision-making, and positive peer interactions.
- Support youth experiencing behavioral challenges through evidence-informed intervention strategies.
- Assist with behavior management plans and intervention strategies developed in collaboration with Club staff and families.
- Promote positive behavior supports and restorative practices throughout Club programs.
- Provide crisis de-escalation support when behavioral incidents arise.
SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Facilitate social-emotional learning activities, workshops, and group discussions.
- Support implementation of SEL curriculum and youth development initiatives.
- Encourage youth voice, leadership development, resilience, and healthy relationship skills.
- Promote a trauma-informed approach to youth engagement and behavior management.
FAMILY & CAREGIVER ENGAGEMENT
- Communicate with parents and caregivers regarding behavioral concerns and progress when appropriate.
- Provide families with information about community resources and support services.
- Assist families in accessing external behavioral health, counseling, or social service resources when needs exceed the scope of Club-based support.
- Participate in family engagement events and educational opportunities.
- STAFF SUPPORT & TRAINING
- Collaborate with Club Directors and youth development staff to develop effective behavior support strategies.
- Provide coaching and guidance to staff on positive behavior management techniques.
- Assist in training staff on trauma-informed practices, social-emotional development, and behavior intervention strategies.
- Support the implementation of organizational behavior management systems and practices.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
DOCUMENTATION & COMPLIANCE
- Maintain accurate records of youth interactions, referrals, interventions, and follow-up activities.
- Complete incident documentation and required reports in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulations.
- Follow all BGCD safety policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
COLLABORATION & PARTNERSHIPS
- Work collaboratively with schools, community organizations, and service providers to support youth success.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case discussions as appropriate.
- Assist with identifying community resources that address youth and family needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Human Services, Education, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working with youth, adolescents, or families in educational, recreational, community, or social service settings.
- Knowledge of positive youth development principles and behavior management practices.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic data entry systems.
- Ability to pass all required background checks.
- Ability to drive personal vehicle for assigned responsibilities.
- Experience facilitating youth groups or social-emotional learning programs.
- Experience working with youth impacted by trauma, behavioral challenges, or adverse childhood experiences.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, less than 5 points on DMV record, and be willing to drive company vehicles (e.g. 10-passenger van); local and statewide travel occasionally required.
- Must be able to pass background check and necessary clearances.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Part-Time Hourly Rate: $21 - $25 per hour x 25 hours per week
ENVIRONMENTAL & WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas. The position requires travel between Club locations and occasional travel for training, meetings, conferences, or organizational events. The Behavioral Specialist may also be called upon to provide related leadership, guidance, or support to Club and Administrative staff.
Work Hours:
This position generally operates Monday through Friday between the hours of 1:00 – 7:00, for up to 25 hours per week. The Specialist must maintain a flexible schedule and be available to respond to program, safety, and operational needs as necessary.
