Job Description:
UP Excellence Academy is seeking an experienced and passionate Reading Interventionist to drive literacy excellence across our classrooms. The Reading Interventionist will work collaboratively with teachers to enhance instructional practices, ensure the effective implementation of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), and support student achievement through personalized learning plans and data-driven interventions.
This role combines leadership, coaching, and direct support to empower teachers with the tools and strategies needed for literacy success. This position operates outside of the classroom; however, during the second semester, the Reading Interventionist will take on the responsibility of leading two accelerated learning groups each day, with each session lasting 40 minutes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Professional Learning Communities (PLCs):
- Host and lead two weekly PLCs focused on the internalization and execution of HQIM.
- Facilitate discussions and activities that strengthen teachers’ instructional practices and enhance student learning outcomes.
- Data-Driven Instruction:
- Assist teachers in creating personalized learning plans by triangulating student data from assessments, running records, and classroom observations.
- Provide actionable insights to drive targeted interventions and instructional adjustments.
- Instructional Support:
- Model effective lessons and co-teach as needed to demonstrate best practices in literacy instruction.
- Collaborate with teachers to develop clear instructional goals and track progress toward those goals.
- Conduct informal classroom observations and contribute to formal observations, providing constructive feedback to improve instructional delivery.
- Guided Reading Implementation:
- Manage the guided reading library, ensuring resources are organized, accessible, and aligned with instructional needs.
- Set expectations and milestones for guided reading group setup, execution, and effectiveness.
- Develop and support systems for running records, monitoring group progress, and evaluating skill development.
- Capacity Building:
- Work closely with teachers to enhance their ability to meet diverse student needs in literacy.
- Provide ongoing professional development and resources to support high-impact teaching strategies.
- Collaboration:
- Partner with school leadership and instructional teams to align literacy goals with school-wide initiatives.
- Actively contribute to the development and evaluation of UP Excellence Academy’s literacy program.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Literacy, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid teaching certification with a specialization in Reading or Literacy.
- Proven experience in literacy instruction, coaching, and curriculum implementation.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build positive relationships with teachers, students, and families.
- Familiarity with guided reading practices, running records, and data-driven instruction.
