This position will take a leadership role in the growth of UOVO’s International Shipping operation, helping to develop it strategically, technically, and operationally. The Director of Import and Export Compliance will report directly to the Head of International Shipping. Core ResponsibilitiesInterface with government agencies as applicable including but not limited to Customs, BIS, TSA, USDA, FDA, USFWS, ATF, OFAC and DOT.Assist in the development and implementation of import and export compliance SOPs.Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance.Identify areas of growth for UOVO’s International Shipping operation, and make recommendations towards its development.In conjunction with the Head of International Shipping and other key stakeholders, research and implement growth initiatives, including but not limited to the establishment of a freight forwarding operation and customs brokerage.Process applications for regulatory approvals. Oversee the implementation and maintenance of new and existing permits, licenses, and bonds.Consult with clients on the regulations that apply to their international shipping needs.Together with the Head of International Shipping, publish a tariff newsletter and news blasts for import/export compliance policy updates.Assist Head of International Shipping as necessary with maintenance of quality vendor relationships, such as but not limited to Veroot, Cargowise, and IATA.Assist Head of International Shipping with operational issues including customer satisfaction, import and export arrangements, and any departmental needs.Create a positive and engaging work environment by mentoring, coaching, and motivating International Account Management Team members when applicable.Partner with Account Managers and the Estimates Team on their clients’ international shipments. Anticipate the needs of clients and seek out information to meet their demands.Provide on-site support and client interface whenever appropriate.Foster the growth of client relationships to encourage the retention, growth, and referrals of existing clients.Other projects as assigned by Manager.Compliance with UOVO policies and procedures.Qualifications & SkillsSuperior leadership skills, with a focus on employee coaching and developmentProven project management skills and art services / logistics experienceUS Customs Broker LicenseFamiliarity with IATA, TSA, USCBP, USFWS, USDA, ATF and OFAC policies and regulationsExperience implementing compliance best practices and auditsExperience with Veroot, Cargowise, and Netsuite softwares preferredPoise in a fast-paced business environmentExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenPro-active and solution-oriented with the ability to think creativelyThis position is predominantly remote but requires on-site presence at UOVO facilities for client interactions, site visits, and collaboration with on-site operations teams as needed.
