The Department of Linguistics, an academic unit of the College of Arts and Sciences, provides undergraduate and graduate degrees. Our fundamental interest is in the nature of language, how language is used, and how this use impacts language learning, processing, and structure over historical and developmental time. Given this interest, we are also invested in the practical and interdisciplinary aspects of language and its use; that is, in its normal and disordered acquisition, teaching, maintenance, revitalization, loss, and also in its social impact and interrelation with social structures and institutions.
Position Summary
The Department of Linguistics is seeking qualified applicants for its open pro tem instructor pool to fill positions as needs arise. We are particularly interested in instructors of functional and cognitive linguistics, as well as second language acquisition and foreign language teaching methods. Instructors spend 90% of their time on teaching responsibilities, and 10% in service.
Pool positions are limited duration appointments, potentially renewable up to a total of three years.

- Master's degree in Linguistics or a related field.
- Professional experience, demonstrated ability or potential for quality teaching.
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Ph.D in Linguistics or a related field.
- We are particularly interested in instructors of functional and cognitive linguistics, as well as second language acquisition and foreign language teaching methods.
