Position Description
Assist with or perform DOT safety inspections on district regulator, city gate stations, Energy Resources gas plants regulators and equipment, Tucson Electric Power and UNSE regulators and equipment and master meter stations as required. Perform accuracy and safety inspections on medium and large meter stations. Perform gas leak surveys on distribution lines, commercial and public buildings, business districts and sectional surveys, annual surveys of transmission lines, surveys of commercial customers piping and surveys for system uprating. Ensure corrosion control on steel natural gas pipelines. Operate electronic locating and specialized electronic equipment. Inspect and maintain rectifiers and instruments. Provide technical assistance and support to construction personnel during pipeline tapping, plugging and completing operations, if proper certifications are obtained. Maintain various records and reports. Assure that all work activities and documentation are compliant with all applicable codes and regulations.
Position-Related Responsibilities Level I and II
· Assist with or maintain proper operation of regulation, pressure control and measurement equipment.
· Respond to emergencies or service requests at pressure regulator stations.
· Statewide travel in AZ and overnight stays may be required during emergencies.
· Review and/or recommend pressure regulating equipment changes or replacement.
· Assist with or operate and maintain complicated electronic measurement, pressure control and flow control equipment.
· Performs maintenance and installation of odorization equipment and systems.
· Survey natural gas facilities using various types of leak detection equipment including, (Flame Ionization Units, Optical Methane Detectors, etc.).
· Identify and classify the severity of gas leaks according to prescribed practices, make appropriate notifications, and if necessary secure the area for the protection of public life and property.
· Identify map discrepancies and facilitate GIS corrections.
· Function test, calibrate, and maintain survey instruments and complete applicable documentation.
· Perform patrolling and surveillance of gas facilities.
· Take pipe-to-soil readings to ensure steel piping is acceptably protected from corrosion in compliance with DOT requirements.
· Maintain cathodic protection system records on the appropriate forms, atlas, maps, etc., to meet regulatory requirements.
· Perform cathodic protection surveys, identify issues or potential cathodic protection issues, and utilize specialized equipment and procedures to resolve or make recommendations to resolve these issues.
· Read and maintain CP rectifiers and make minor repairs as needed.
· Read and maintain CP bonds.
· Provide oversight and direction to contractors as needed.
· Provide technical assistance and support to construction personnel during pipeline tapping, plugging and completing operations, if proper certifications are obtained.
· Complete and maintain records of all surveys and inspections.
· All other related duties as required.
Position-Related Responsibilities Level II
· Perform complex Cathodic Protection testing such as soil resistivity analysis and interpretation, conduct close interval surveys and interpret results
· Provide oversight and inspection for contract labor that inspect TPP measurement and pressure control stations
· Perform data analysis utilizing flow control devices
· Witness and review supplier meter calibrations.
· Provide support to local operations regarding data interpretation for system pressure analysis
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
(Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)
· High school diploma or GED
· Valid AZ driver’s license and will submit to Company pre-employment and DOT/RSPA random drug testing as required.
· Two years of experience performing maintenance activities with gas meters, regulators and pressure control equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience
· Must be in good physical condition and able to walk for extended periods of time while carrying survey equipment
· Basic computer skills
· Ability to work alone and in adverse weather conditions.
· Electrical trouble shooting, solar power supplies, cell modem installation / operation
· EPR operation, calibration, configuration, and troubleshooting
· Excellent verbal and written communication
· Ability to maintain work schedule without direct supervision
· Ability to understand and follow policies and procedures.
Level II Knowledge Skills and Abilities
· Cathodic Protection Fundamentals Course
· Cathodic Protection Field Techniques Course
· Knowledge of Cathodic Protection methods, theory, and design along with knowledge of pipeline construction and maintenance
· Demonstrated Knowledge of DOT regulations
· Company approved Gas Measurement certification
· Ability to coach and mentor less experienced team members
